respecs are not likely to ever be allowed however:
Would it be possible to let us ERASE a skill?
give a cooldown like on character removal or something to prevent people from doing it by accident and please please let us remove useless skills
Why? Think Bonsai. We grow our characters over time but it would be nice to be able to trim things that are not needed such as skills learned by accident, mistake or forced to be had during character creation. Surely game balance will not be effected if those who wish to can -remove- skill points?

how bout the ability to hide skills we dont want to see, seems far more reasonable, far easier to code and will end up with far less petitions. |

I've never seen any "useless" skill in eve.
perhaps there are some that don't look good on your CV as a fighter, but they aren't useless |

It has been suggested to have the option to hide finished skills which got quite positive feedbacks from players. Removing skills completely is just silly. You never know when/if you need that skill in the future... |

what skill is useless.. hmmmm "defender missiles" got any uses for that?
but that's not what this is about. you might not want a skill removed. many people do. surely you would not suggest they would gain an unfair advantage over you by removing them?
as for difficult or easy implementation, skill removal code already exists in the form of un-payed clones. |

exactly my thoughts ... you are fully responsible for your character ... if you don't manage it well, don't complain ....

if you arnt aiming to get every skill in the game, you are doing it wrong. there is not such thing as a useless skill in eve, even gas cloud harvesting occasionally pays off. |

"yes a lot of people use defender with their caldari vessel if you think skill are useless"
it does not work
"dont train it without read description"
that specific skill is sometimes forced down your throat during character createion. as is mining.

But there are some skills that are useless if trained to 5. For example, why would you train jury rigging to 5 ?

so dont train it to V?

That is the plan. I was responding to:
Quote: there is not such thing as a useless skill in eve
With an example of a skill that is useless after a point.
Still, if I had trained it the only reason I would to untrain it to 4 is if I could get some of the SP back (something I don't see CCP doing). And the OP isn't asking for that, he is just asking to reduce the clutter on his skill sheet. Which can be done by letting us hide skills.
I also want to hide some skills from my character sheet, but the ones I want hidden are not skills I want to lose.
The downside with deleting skills is that no matter the safeguards people will lose skills 'by accident'. Or they will get their account hacked and the hacker will remove skills before being discovered. While these are small problems, I don't see it giving any gains to balance them. |

i hate to be pedantic, but "jury rigging lvl 5" is not a discreet skill "jury rigging" is the skill, and if you dont have it you cant use rigs, therefore its one of the most useful skills in the game. all the skills are useful, its just sometimes it isnt worth training them to the max. |

I, too, would like to erase skill or few.
Most people dont mind having "litter" skills here and there, but i do.
True that theres no useless skills in eve, but if you know that you are not going to use that particular skill ever, you might as well as erase it. And if you someday regret erasing it, it can be learned again, right?

Umm...
Some of us would probably like to forget the things we were forced to take in High School or College.
Even though you're majoring in English Lit, they still make you take Biology and Calc.
But that doesn't mean that we can wave a magic wand and make that go away.
So accept the fact that your character probably had to study some "extracurriculars" before they graduated into the wide world of Eve.
And if these "scrap skills" were learned after creation... then its your own fault for taking them. Live and learn, and then get Luvs. |

The problem is that if you can delete skills, someone will delete a skill then later they will find out that it was a mistake. Now you have them petitioning for it to be restored. Even if CCP rejects all these petitions, their time is still spent reading it.
Or you have someone who gets their account hacked. The hacker has control for long enough to delete some critical skills. Now CCP has to spend time confirming such a hack, and more time restoring the lost skills.
What advantage does skill deletion bring to make up for these reductions in character security ?
The only advantage this would bring is that you no longer have to look at the skills you don't like. But being able to hide skills would bring the same advantage, without the disadvantages, and also allow people to hide skills they want kept. For example: - I want to hide my level 5 skills because they clutter up my skill sheet when I'm going to change skills. - I also want to hide the skills I'm not planning to train for a while so I can find the skills I want quicker. As my training progresses I would want to hide more skills and unhide others.
