Arkturus McFadden wrote:So what can CCP do to prevent such an escalation in ganking of the high sec population? Is there anything? Or is it simply up to the players that commit such acts to tone it down?
CCP has already taken steps to tone down the level of ganking. The problem is that the ganking community revolts and rages against this and only goes out and ganks more. I agree with Bugsy completely, griefing is a part of any game, its the internet for gods sake! If we continue to escalate the level of ganking CCP will be FORCED to drop the hammer. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN!! The minute CCP is forced to make a decision between open sandbox environment and safe high sec is the day that things have gone too far. The ganking community will have no one to blame but themselves. Law enforcement must step up their game to combat new threats.
Our system of law has a very similar progression. You start off with taking small freedoms, and giving up things that no one really cares about. Then in small steps you expand the scope of said law base and before you know it, you have SOPA.
Short answer: If you continue to escalate the level of ganking CCP WILL take action. We have seen this happen in other pvp centric games and the solution is NEVER awesome. Please, please don't force their hand in this.

Jacob Staffuer wrote:Quote:Cyber Bullying: "Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen(person) is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. It has to have a minor on both sides, or at least have been instigated by a minor against another minor. Once adults become involved, it is plain and simple cyber-harassment or cyberstalking. Adult cyber-harassment or cyberstalking is NEVER called cyberbullying. I respect Noir, so it's sad to see such a moron counted amongst their ranks. Here's the actual, legal definition of "cyberbullying": Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner. It involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior. So people who "shitpoast", repeatedly gank miners, use locator agents, "make it personal", convo, post said convo's on forums, etc... are cyberbullying. Period. Thx now stop being an idiot; you're making Noir look bad, and they're a respectable group.
That doesn't apply to Eve because the characters we each use to represent ourselves are just fictional characters and are property of CCP Games. Besides, any player that thinks they are being harassed can always go to CCP so that they can ban the griefer for harassment. Either that or they can always make an alt to hide in so that they can live out their typical Eve lives in peace. Eventually the griefers or gankers will get bored of waiting and move on to someone else. Welcome to Eve Online. Don't expect people to be nice to you. |

I'm sorry that you got killed in a spaceship game that revolves around killing.
It happens because to this day some people still load their Exhumers with faction & officer mods, which gives them a false sense of invincibility. |

Jacob this where I got the source for my definition just so you know.
I also would like to draw the distinction that you chose to call me stupid. In my initial and following posts I did not take the time to attack any one's character while making my point.
The fact that you called me stupid in a forum... Should I consider that cyber bullying?
I dont think so.
We will have to agree to disagree on the definition of cyberbullying Jacob. I do respect your opinion but as other posters have said, space stuffs and real stuff are too very different things. I think people need to see the difference between convincing your high school class mates that so and so is a *****, and trying to extract tears from a target corp. I have been in a corp that has been hard core griefed in the past and I had to deal with that. It was annoying and even insulting at times.
But guess what? Its the sandbox, and I knew that once I got into It I would have to take my lumps eventually. You take the good with the bad when you play this game. Its what makes eve a dynamic experience.
Bottom line is an attack in game does not constitue a personal attack in real life. Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.comI Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers. |

For the love of DIETY, stop throwing around Cyberbullying when used in a group context; The word doesn't mean squat in a game where, right out of the gate, you're told that the game allows piracy/scams/etc. It only becomes that when they single you out (like if I were to follow a single person around, ganking them everywhere they went). If it's between groups, it's called politics and you move on with your life.
Also, if you're really getting stressed out, press the X button. It's a video game. |

Yet another problem I see.. is that you don't see them as people. Sure there are bots, but countless players that mine do it actively alongside other people. |

There is no problem here. They aren't people. They are like Gingers. Mindless, soulless, flesh that shoot high powered lasers at defenseless rocks. Think about the environment, you bastard! Post with your main or GTFO! If I responded to your thread, you're probably getting trolled. |

I wasn't talking about the bots.
Miners are like medieval serfs. They may be the basis of the economy, but they get no respect, barely make enough money to live, and sometimes the upper classes kill them just because it's fun.
The difference is that serfs were born to it. Miners choose to be that way. |

I don't know, I want to get into PVP in EVE.. but killing those that make it possible for me to afford ships just seems extremely illogical and game breaking..
I mean, by all means kill the bots.. but active players that like mining?
More replies would be great, maybe from actual gankers? I really want to understand why this is done.
I am not a suicide ganker by any means, but I have ganked a lot of miners. It's not my forte, however. Anyway, your assertion that miners make ships available isn't true; most T2 ships are comprised mostly of moon materials and high-end minerals. If mining becomes rare in highsec and it affects prices, market wizardry means that more mining will be done in nullsec.
Which, coincidentally, was one of the main motivations for small gang PvP, mining in nullsec (and the defence of) |

So the gankers are all little pets of those, which try to monopolize these materials, espacially moon-goo? GÇ£A man's freedom consists in his being able to do whatever he wills, but that he should not, by any human power, be forced to do what is against his will.GÇ¥-áGÇò Jean-Jacques Rousseau-á |
