I, for one, welcome our hyper-sports car SUV overlords.

It is an X6 with Gallardo front end. For sure. Smack the 'art' department upside the head someone !
Regarding Vans - Youir body high but all the weight is low, as low as a Go-Cart in comparison really. People always make an issue that a 'white van' man steamed past them at ludicrous speed, however in reality its just as and even safer than a Saxo/Golf speed meister pulling the same stunt.
For vans of epicness youtube the large Transit that has chassis and engine from a Jaguar XJ220 and the box Transit that is powered by a old Renault F1 engine.
Oh and SUV's suck (resources mainly). "caught on fire a little bit, just a little." "Delinquents, check, weirdos, check, hippies, check, pillheads, check, freaks, check, potheads, check .....gangsn++ all here!" |

and then they try to ride it in tarmac and crash the damn thing in the first serious corner they see.
the Defender is an awesome offroad vehicle, but having live axles on both front and rear makes it less than optimal to maintain stability in tarmac.

ORLY I'm still trying to find the fully submersible Defender.
I got to looking at the stats for each. The defender has a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder diesel, which is ok for its size and it does pump out a decent 360 lb of torque which is essential for the low range power you need for those hill climbs. However, the Alpha holds a 6.6 liter beast with 520 lb of torque. easily capable of keeping up.
Not only that, but the towing capacity of the defender is abysmal. The average weight that I found on the defender is a whipping 3500lbs, which is essentially another Defender. But if you are looking at dragging a 40ft trailer to that remote lake I do believe that the Alpha's 17, 300 lb towing capacity will do quite nicely.
I'll also note that the Defenders base ground clearance is 12 inches. Pretty decent for clearing those nasty rocks. But again the Alpha beats it by 4 inches for an impressive 16" clearance.
Now the Defender does have the alpha beat on turning radius, which is to be expected with smaller vehicles. But that's ok because as you can see in the above video not even a 6ft wall can stop a hummer.
Don't get me wrong, I like my Land Rover just as much as the next guy, but at least I can admit when I'm outclassed. Hell, my dad's GMC pickup outperformed the Disco on our drive back from California. We filled up at the same gas station in Stockton and by the time we got to Wichita I was riding on fumes while he still had almost a quarter of a tank left. And while riding with cruise control on, each time we hit an inclined I would immediately lose speed while the GMC didn't even notice. Let alone the fact that he can basically haul a Sherman Tank with his transmission. In fact about the only thing I really had him beat on was the luxury interior, though that doesn't mean much because the GMC is a working man's truck and if you ever find it clean there is something wrong. I would also like to point out that the vehicle quality is not all that it's cracked up to be. In the 2 years that I've had it my transmission has burned up, I've got multiple oil leaks, 2 of my electronic door locks don't work, I've got the 3 amigo's lighting up on my dashboard, and my master cylinder is going out. I owned a nissan pickup truck for a decade of vehicular abuse and never once took it in the shop for anything more than a oil change.
I've noticed that all of your vehicle knowledge comes from 5th Gear so no doubt I'm sure that you'll want to broadcast the episode where they compete a Range Rover against a Hummer H2 and Escalade. But I'm sure I don't need to remind you that it was a H2 and not an alpha. The H2 and the H3 are simply **** and are geared towards high end soccer mom's. If wanted wanted a real challenge I would have offered up a Jeep Unlimited which not only can outperform both of those SUV's, it can do so at literally less than half the price. And just for the record, my little pick up could of made it up that hill they were climbing. |

not sure where you are talking about, but anywhere a humvee will sink into the ground is the same place any other non-track vehicle is going to sink into the ground.
edit: doesn't make it the best vehicle ever though, it's main pros are wheel base and suspension. it has decent clearance but the length of the vehicle can be bad (if you get hung up). it's power is reasonable but not incredibly impressive....just enough.
it's a military vehicle. versatile, hard, but there are readily apparent cost/benefit flaws in the materials. the mentality is drive it till it dies, leave it behind when it's disabled, the gov't can go buy 5 more type of vehicle. anyone that has had to keep them up year after year can tell you it's one of the best and shittiest vehicles at the same time.
i don't know anything about this topic, i only drove them through hell in various environments for years. i've recovered humvees from swamp where there were buried to the roof . it's about the last vehicle you should be getting stuck in.
the lambo looks pretty tight. that interior is stupidly awesome looking. i'm sure some people think it has pointy knees but wth do they know? |

Defender - avg of about 1700 kg or 3902 lbs which is slightly higher than the Bronco ii which for me was pretty bad but then again the Bronco was a gutless wonder. Alpha - 7,213 lbs which makes her a heavy girl but still lighter than your average workhorse.
****, now I want a samurai even more. that thing weights about 930kg (bit shy of 2060 lbs). granted it doesn't have zomg power, but I've heard of people dragging out pajeros and hiluxes out of mud pools with one of those.

There was a guy back in Penn I think, who took a samurai and extended the axles outward on both front and back so that they actually stuck out from the vehicle. Then he gave it a 10" lift and stuck 38 crawlers on. I can't remember if he swapped out the engine but that little samurai was boss on the rocks and the axles were flexible as hell. |
