All these threads on unfinished features or reports of things never getting fixed before ADD.. er I mean CCP moves on to the next big project make me wonder what the playerbase thinks of all the unfinished work and dead ends.
so I'm wondering, what do you feel is finished work and is it done right?

A ton of stuff works for me ingame 99% of the time, but when you start using umbrella categories, that premise falls apart.
i.e. even if my warp tunnel does not animate properly from time to time, I get to where I am warping 99% of the time.
There are hundreds and thousands of little things in EVE that are nearly flawless from a mechanical point of view that a lot of us take for granted because we are looking more at semantics a vast majority of the time, as opposed to actual syntax, i.e. does this [code block] execute flawlessly 99% of the time or not?
As far as details are concerned, a ton of stuff is flawless in this game, as far as projects or general mechanics are concerned, i.e. 'hybrids', 'faction warfare', 'sovereignty' none of those things will ever be finished or done, whether CCP ever revisits them or not, they are all and always will be works in progress by virtue of the fact that CCP continues to expand upon their game, and thus old content and mechanics must be retooled constantly, in theory. ...clearly the Ishukone Watch Scorpion is the fifth horseman of the Apocalypse, i.e. the Brown Rider, otherwise known as Poopie. |

Sov system (it works despite it being trash), sov upgrades, incursions, wormholes, T3s, cynos/jump drives, planetary interaction, stealth bomber redesign and fleet finder to name a few.
EVE could improve on countless issues, 90% of them are probably even "low-hanging fruit", but I think the message you're trying to convey is just completely disproportionate.
EVE is still enjoyable as an everyday game, EVE has been good 5 years ago and even after the recent "bad" expansions, EVE is still playable, it's fun and there's countless things to do or ships to fly. I clearly don't want the bugs from 5 years ago back. EVE's UI is often unresponsive and in some cases just stupid, but that doesn't make the game unplayable, if anything a little bit less enjoyable, which still makes it enjoyable. |

do you warp to the exact location or do you come up a little short because the gates and stations are incorrectly positioned depending on what side you approach from?
and while I'll agree that countless things do work correctly, a ton of other things do not, and they don't get fixed, ever, even with BFF doing their thing cleaning up the messes the main devs left behind.
and also yes, things expand, but whats currently in the pipe has a start and end point, a baseline of creation and implementation that defines when a project begins and is completed. Thats the issue, not expansion, starting something, implementing it in a halfassed fashion and walking away never to look back. Just like the things you mentioned, hybirds, FW, sov... sure they are works in progress, but the issue is they were never done right in the first place, and they were walked away from it in its unfinished state. in theory... |

IMNSHO, I think CCP has finished MANY things quite well, however in light of this excellence, the holes and bugs really stand out. I played for several years under the erroneous assumption that CCP was in the background working on all these fixes and all I needed to do was be patient.
Why do I say erroneous? Well in the summer of 2010 we learned that CCP felt that making new content was better than fixing old content, that is when I think the veil came down and the RAGE began. CCP has never walked back from that statement, they did make team BFF, however they need 2-3 guys/gals who's ONLY job is to track down poor work and fix it.
Done Well Wormhole space and Sleeper AI, perfect? no but done well. The New Probing system, and scanner for Anomalies. Manufacturing of T1 goods Market Data and filters T3 Cruisers

Assault Frigates fourth bonus, I mean really? 4 years and NOTHING? sigh T3 not being buildable at POS Too many NPC stations everywhere, nothing NPC corps having 2 stations in one system, why? the cargo cap is infinite ...

You do realize there is this thing called "inertia" that applies to pretty much.. uh.. everything in motion right? And if you stopped directly on top of something regardless of which direction you came from, besides the fact that your body would immediately become intermingled with whatever your target is on an atomic scale, but there would be a pileup of epic proportions at pretty every gate....

Well, if I am in a ship, I almost always land in jump range, only rarely do I not. If I am in a pod, I will frequently land just shy of jump range but I have read a few explanations of why this occurs that seem reasonable enough to me, not to mention the fact that I only travel in a pod on rare occasion to begin with as every good traveler knows to at least use a shuttle to provide some minimum coverage in the event you get locked or are in trouble, pods are just too slow as it is.
I do agree, that a lot of content that comes out, comes to us in a way that seems half-finished, or rushed, but I believe Faction Warfare is the only true solid example of something that was almost universally abandoned by CCP six months after it was released.
Most everything else gets some nice touchup every year or two from what I can gather, it is only FW that has not seen the light of day since release.
Hybrids well... I have a feeling CCP has been preparing for a very long time to address these and other combat related issues, I am hopeful that the winter expansion will include a healthy amount of fixes to these and other similar issues.
