Even against a static target, makes no sense to me.
It's mainly the large guns.
I can be shooting at a huge stationary object, like a station, while sitting completely still myself and I'll get numbers like ;
Your group of blasters hit for ;
449 1200 Miss 200 555 800 200
Yet when I use pretty much ANY other weapon group, I get pretty reliable and acuurate numbers. Whether it be lasers, railguns, rockets, missiles etc...

The tracking vs 4.5km of optimal range you get with blasters is not great even if its only your ship that is moving.....

I said in the OP my ship is stood still.
I've tried putting a ton of tracking and range on the ship and have tried it from 20km's out.
Same thing still happens.
I can even hit consistantly with railguns from that distance.

That seems unusual though.
My understanding of the damage/tracking calculation was that there were three hit situations. Firstly there is any sort of miss, which of course does 0 damage. Then there's a normal hit, which does randomly between 50% and 150% of the nominal damage (depending on your chance to hit certain values here may not be available). And finally there's the wrecking hits, which always do 3x nominal damage.
The figures you have quoted don't fit into this at all. Given the regularity of the round numbers I am going to assume that you made them up rather than pulling them from the logs, in which case I'm actually quite annoyed that you asked a misleading (i.e. critically incorrect) question and am not going to help you any further.

I suggest you check your logs properly or you speed cos those dmg amounts look like a tranasversal issue, more than just a hit type differance.

I also noticed similar things. Also that rails seemed to be spot on, but blasters were all over the place.
Have you tried shooting both weapon types at the same time? If transversal is an issue, then both should have somewhat similar curves. Stop whining. |

In order to fully grasp the issue, you need to understand how blasters were first developed and employed. It harkens back to a simpler time, where the men stood shoulder to shoulder and the women made fearsome banquets. And they both did like to dance.
Large blasters would strike for hundreds of thousands of points, but in those days that was considered to be quite a bit of damage.

Check your huge stationary object sig radius. Make sure you are actually at or below optimal. Don't use ammo that lowers tracking. Shoot at least 1000x for any valid dataset.

i agree with OP.
If I am in a blaster fitted mega and fire at a pos while stationary the 7xneutron blasters will hit anywhere between say 1200 - 2600 against the pos shield.
For clarity: I am stationary and at 12km distance POS is stationary! POS is as big as a - er - pos
why on earth don't the blasters wreck every volley? Who's the rudest of them all! |

Because with 100% chance to hit, 1% of your shots will be wrecking and the rest will be uniformly distributed between 50% and 150% damage. Because that's how it works.

1. Even if transversal is ZERO, if you're fighting outside optimal range, your chance to hit is no longer 100%
2. Damage dealt goes like this:
* for each gun shot, generate a random number "x" between 0 and 1 * if x <= chance to hit, you hit ; if x > chance to hit, you miss * if x <= 0.01, you deal triple damage when you hit * if x > 0.01, you deal (0.5+x) * base damage, or, in other words, anything between 51% and 150% of base damage * obviously, the first hits that go away when chance to hit drops below 100% are the non-wrecking best hits, and last hits to go away are wrecking ones (triple damage)

If you are 12km away from the shields, it's 12km + shield radius = firing range. I know it's completely stupid, but you're actually hitting the tower and not the forcefield. One of the reasons why you can't use the normal combat drones to shoot at a tower: they can't get within activation distance to the tower because they bounce off the shields while trying to get there.
That's why people are usually not using shortrange weapons to shoot at a POS. Blasters utterly fail because of a very short range, ACs also fail at it, but not as bad as blasters since they have more falloff, Pulses on the other hand won't have a problem with range.

Maybe you should try shooting in optimal instead of falloff? I dunno, might help, maybe not since you're the one piloting the ship. Judging by your post history I'd say you're not the brightest capsuleer to grace our presence. And after all this time, I finally removed that annoying sentence in my signature.

Ofc. 1 scram is not enough. You need scram + web, ideally scram + 2 x webs. But then the falcon alt uncloaks and you just RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE as you sit there, unable to do a damned thing.

1. Swap dualwebs for web+9k 2. Overheat mwd, web+scram, close range 3. ???? 4. Profit!
also, its not like you don't have the mids....
Also, falcon uncloaking is sh*tty, but thats a different topic (or knowing this ****ing forum one of any of the 50 active topics on it )
