Can someone from CCP explain what ec2-23-21-134-55.compute-1.amazonaws.com port 81 (IP 23.21.134.55) function as? It dials that IP when starting EVE.

It's probably sending a list of your hard drive contents to homeland security. Things are only impossible until they are not. |

If you bothered to check it out yourself you would find that amazonaws.com is another domain for http://aws.amazon.com/.
Amazon Web Services.
I think you can figure out the rest from there. |

Doubtful as he couldn't even get that far.

Just noticed it on my firewall myself.
I'm guessing it is the launcher accessing the Amazon cloud.
Possibly to download (seed) an update, in the absence of peers it could use otherwise. Assuming the launcher uses P2P (it does have a setting for the number of threads).
Also other web content for the launcher is possible. It isn't unusual to use port 81 for that. |

Blocked that IP through the hosts file as a simple test, so far nothing critical. Patch is normal. EVE starts OK. Doubt they're using the EC2 cloud service as a form of redundancy for patch web/content (because historically, CCP never goes this far). Guessing it might have something to do with the automatic crash report upload.

Guessing it might have something to do with the automatic crash report upload. It's our logging server in the Amazon Cloud. You can disable the logging in the Launcher rather than blocking it, but getting those logs is pretty critical for us, since it helps us work out why stuff isn't working. Should of said they use it to catch bots then ban hammered the people that blocked it. I love the the smell of victory in the morning. It smells like... Blood, vomit and burning flesh.
