You mean five gigabytes/month? Because there's no such thing like "most of". I hardly reaching 3Gb for all my internet needs, that's including not only online gaming, but also all the web browsing and downloads. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

The only time Eve every really use much bandwidth is during log on. For a while I was playing Eve on a flaky 28.8KBaud dial-up and it would take up to 15mins to get logged in but once I was past that I could mine and even do lvl3 missions in quiet systems. The only times I had a little bit of lag when the mission space spawned or got a new wave of rats. Generally Eve uses less then a few hundred bytes/min if you're just sitting in a station or mining etc. One of the biggest problem people actually can have with Eve is because of the low data rates some ISPs and firewalls think you are no longer using the connection and drop it on their end So as Tonto Auri pointed out above Eve isn't going use up all your allowed data but that long winded guy on Vent at 10s of KB/s might -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Edited by: Liz Laser on 13/02/2009 16:38:21 Yes, 5 GB/month.
Thanks for the replies, I guess I'm going to do it. Anyone know a provider that doesn't require a 2 year contract? I can do 2 years, but just don't see why it is neccessary, it's not like they're giving me a free phone or anything. |

I have to play on mobile internet during the week due to work. In a 4 hour session I will use around 100MB which includes vent useage and the data sent to/from the EvE client. |

Quick math :
100 MiB <=> 4 H playing EVE. 5 GiB <=> 200 H.
=> 6 H 40 Min / Day.
So, that should be enough :) |

Yeah, skipping voice should stretch it a lot further too. |

Eve itself uses almost no bandwidth (some 2mb/h during capfights at a POS, measured with wireshark). Voicecomms such as TS or Ventrilo usually use up more bandwidth and it can evolve into a problem if you use TS/Vent channels with alot of traffic (large alliance TS servers with lots of people talking). A system like Jita will normally use up a bit more bandwidth compared to mining in a 0.0 system. Pre-paid datacards are usually available as an alternative to a 2year subscription.
Useless facts: Mobile broadband solutions (most commonly UMTS with HSDPA/HSUPA) will work nicely for Eve. The only real issue is the technological bottlenecks with RTT between 60-400ms (lower for HSUPA, higher for regular UMTS) and the possible effects of congestion on cell/site level (modulation jumps due to crowded radio environments might lead to disconnects from eve as some packets might get lost).

Most of that is Ventrilo.
Eve is still today designed to be ran on a 56k modem without latency issues. The vast majority of data is held on your machine or on TQ itself, with only variables in small packets being passed between the two.
5GB/month without voice would mean you could probably play Eve 24/7 for the whole month and not even come close to the limit.

I use, due to location limits and building issues, Sprints Mobile Broadband which is limited to 5GB. I have 6 installs of eve and usually don't hit 2GB while using Ventrilo, EVE and Skype. And occasionally I notice a little lag but usually that's when I have 2x clients running at the same time. I Also dump around 30 to 40 hrs a week into eve. CEO & Founder LALOS |

Currently The only times I notice bad lag spike that last longer then a few milliseconds is during cell peek usage times. As for DC it has yet to happen to me. I also tend to sit on a vent server with between 50 to 150, sometimes more some times less, logged on and active. CEO & Founder LALOS |
