Hey, I was wondering what drone type I should be using for level 4's. I'm about to start my first level four soon in my Raven but I need to be able to take care of frigates and possibly cruisers. Is it the same basic formula for most things:
Light Scout Drones > Frigates Medium Scout Drones > Cruisers Heavy Attack Drones > Battleships Sentry > ???
Or is that wrong? Thanks |

You have it correct. That said I have had no problem killing frigs with medium drones. They take a bit longer then they did before the drone changes in QR, but they still do their job. My drone skills are very good though, so you might want to test both light and medium drones and see what works best for you.

As previous poster said, you have it correct.
However, I would add that generally 5 Medium Drones are generally preferable to 3 Heavy Drones. The typical fitting for a Raven is to have 5 Mediums and 5 Lights, switching between them as desired.
You can group drones so that it is easier to deploy and command each set of drones.

Thats for tech 1...Tech 2 light drones will chew through frigates like butter, and can solo cruisers pretty easy. And rarely get hit in return.
Tech 2 drone skills are probably the most worthwhile skills I have trained so far. It is definitely worth it.

Oh man, I didn't even know about that until a few weeks ago. What a difference that makes. Makes it SO much easier to manage drones.
I have mine separated into Alpha and Beta wings...when alpha get shield damaged at all, I call them back and launch the Betas. Rinse and repeat, so one wing is always regenerating.
I cant believe I've gone all this time not knowing about this. It makes using drones an entirely different experience.

setting up hotkeys for the attack and return also helps a lot. --

Can we nominate Drones for one of the best PvE inventions since the sammich?

Good advice, thanks. But what are sentry drones used for/against?
Also, how do I group them? Or should I just tinker around in the drone overview and see from there.

Sentry drones are stationary gun turrets. With sufficient distance and some luck with the angular velocity, they can snipe frigates and other small ships, but they're generally intended for use against BS class ships. |

Hmm, sounds very promising. Could you please explain how you do that?
Thanks.

Press "Esc" in-game, and go to the hotkey tab. You can assign a key to a function there. Drones are at the top of the list on the right I think.
Not sure, but I think you have to assign them in combination...it would not let me use "a" to order my drones to engage target. I had to use "ALT-A".
I hadnt done this until yesterday, and it really does make a big difference. EVE's HUD is a tad cumbersome to use in the middle of combat. The shortcuts help a lot.

It won't let you use the standard qwerty keys and numbers as hotkeys on their own but it will let you assign function keys to them. I have attack and return of f11 and f12 respectively (a hangover from when before grouping, as I wanted them as far away as possible from the weapon shortcuts, now they could be anything from f3 up as I dont have to do the stroking the f keys thing anymore).

o/ tranka
you have the drone uses correct, sentry drones are also very useful for gatecamping, especially if there is a BS RR gang on the other side, set them up at their optimal and get a bunch of domis deploying them, its like a huge crossfire...

Just confirming that three Hobgoblin IIs with my skills are not capable of soloing the mission-completion boss in Angel Extravaganza, level 4 ;)
Next time I'll be smart and use Warrior IIs (lol). And maybe launch some missiles.
