I just downloaded and ran the latest patch for the test server. seems like a nice quick small download of 704kbs, however it seems to me as though there now going down the way of the other MMOs and making you download an "installer" program which then downloads from a server.
so now instead of downloading at my nice fast ADSL2 speeds, i'm downloading the new patch at anywhere between 4kb/s and 27kb/s. with the last patch being over 1GB this is bad news....
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! dont go down this patch CCP. Let us download the patch from a fixed server and now a stupid installer program!!!!

I dunno, I'm downloading at an average of 1.1 MB/s from the patch server and the maximum my connection to the Internet can handle is something like 1.2 MB/s.
You shouldn't be getting any less speed as far as I can reason, you're not downloading from a "program" you're downloading a program that then downloads the patch from the same server that always distributed the patch - this is just a much more convenient way to download the patch since people don't need the EVE client to be open for all of that 1+ GB that the expansion will require, saving resources etc. Therefore it's actually a green decision by CCP as the decreased resources will save energy on thousands of computers.
Ergo, I also expect the patching system to return to normal for those small 1.5 MB bug-fix patches that are released in the weeks after the expansion gets out the door. |

know thats what it says, however, the ingame downloader only downloaded 704kb. probably why it kept saying it was corrupt. so i went to the webpage to download the patch. Downloaded a 704kb file which I ran and now its probably downloading the rest of the 700+mbs. (i.e. i do actually know the difference between kb and mb)
blah!! anyway. i posted my last one when i had just started the patching download. i'm now only 11% done an hour later..... 2 nights ago, i downloaded the whole 1GB file in less than 20 mins...
i wish i was getting the usual 1mb/s download on this, but at the moment, i feel like i'm trying to download on dialup...
can someone link me the 700mb file on a fixed server so i can cancel this stupid installer |

so there's no other way to patch it then? damnit! i now officially hate this new patching scheme.
i have done what you said, but as i said earlier, it only downloads at a rate of no more than 24kb/s. it'd be quicker for me to download the whole game off someone else who has already patched it i think... |

dunno about you, but I downloaded the new patch a few hours ago at my max speed of 1.2mb/s(that's 1200 Kilobytes per second)
I think you were getting speed issues because everyone was downloading a large patch all at once from a server that doesn't get a lot of traffic. |

My initial patch on Singularity, the first that included the M10 content (77718) took nearly 1.5 hours. This patch to 79298 is taking a half hour just to download.
This new patching system needs work. IMO. |

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 14/02/2009 01:15:24 Relax folks. This is the test client and the expectations are different. They have the auto-patcher pointing to the wrong file, so just hold up till they fix it.
Its not the final product, its not supposed to work properly 100% of the time (its there to test things) so just wait till they have the auto-patcher point to the correct file or download the patch manually from http://www.eve-online.com/patches/patches.asp?s=singularity&system=win&edition=premium.
The test server clients have issues all the time going back for years. If there was no issues, then it would not be a test client, now would it? --

I went to the manual patching page (listed above) and it lists 77718 as 'latest' patch in the drop down menu, but under it, it says "Current Client Version: 79298". So the only options I can find are from (TQ 75883 > 77718), with no patch to 79298. I understand its a test server, and I will wait until they fix it. There is the option to DL the whole client, but I am unsure if this will give me 77718 or 79298's client. So I will wait :( shame as I wanted to finish the skilling to t3 :(
*update: if like me you found your way to this thread and not this one: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=998121 < go there to DL the data file and exe that will let you patch, I am getting 1.2Mbits/second which make it around a 9min DL. |

Almost, but the text on the page may be confusing. The current build is 79298. They have two patches available to get the test client up to that, with the latest patch file being from 77718.

I want to know what was CCP's thought process in making this. Hmm, we have had a perfectly acceptable patching process for 5 years and we're about to release a big expansion. I know! Lets make a totally new .NET patcher! Come on guys! .NET! It'll be super awesome! We totally have developer resources to spare right now!
