Yes of course its worth it. Why would the guns be in the game if they didn't do something? I can't use the T2 large guns either and don't see a problem with it. Unless you're doing some kind of operation that requires you to shoot the same ranges ...

i think the armor rigs affecting speed, and the shield rigs affecting sig radius is pretty bogus. speed is a pretty harsh penalty, while signature isnt really that bad, especially once you get up to the battleship level.
