For #2 You can edit your overview so that it doesnt include gang/corp/alliance/friends. I also believe you can change the background colours and I know you can have + or - symbols. ----

Well whoever started the gang will be the 'Boss' and they will need to right click you in the fleet tab on their over view, then "move member" - > "squad #" - > "squad commander" You do not need to be the boss, only the Squad Commander. ----
