I'd guess you may either trying an old version of wine, having a damaged prefix or your downloaded file is corrupt. Also sometimes the installer doesn't work, when your wine emulates Win7 / Win2008.

Since the upgrade my Eve crashes (supposedly) at the splash screen. Yesterday the old version still worked, now I cannot seem to start it up. An exception has occurred. It has been logged in the log server as exception #1 Investigating just now.
