Tested 4 clients, CPU usage now (just) below 100% and changing stuff like switching to a different overview setting is near instant again, instead of taking 8-10 seconds previously.

Only problem I have is EVE, tried several games and none actually use a lot of CPU or fluctuate madly. WOW WotLK client for instance takes 37-44% in a busy area, without focus (but still active) it drops down to 26%.

That's odd because I completely trust the agression timer up to the second, and it never failed. If it resets that's probably because someone shot your can/drones or whatever.
