i think its about gameplay and realism a distant second. In terms of real sceince well hawking says its a possibility but until a way is found to generate, contain and transport using new science its impossible to do.

so far my interactions with NPCs have been pirate drones - they just hone in on you - perhaps if you had a pack of 3 planeted around asteroids they could be spaced further aprt and when a player lands near the asteroid they could come from all sid...

i fully agree with a lot of points on this thread - something more than a bounty out of combat perhaps a % chance of any items being left in tact after the battle being recoverable. Or even scrap metal - perhaps a combat skill or dunno.
