One day last week, probably Monday or Tuesday, I logged on right after downtime, in my usual mining system, and warped to one of the belts.
WOW!
Lots of asteroids with over 30k units of veldspar. Somehad 40k-45k units, some even a bit more. It was real lazyland, just locking on and not worrying too much about wasted cycles. I mined 3 full JetCans plus my hulk's cargo hold, that day, in maybe an hour and a half. I'm amazed nobody stole ore from me.
Since then I've logged on most days, right after downtime, and seen the asteroids being much, much smaller. Very few can take even 2 stripper cycles before being empty.
I know asteroids in high-sec, at least 0.9 and 1.0, respawn during each downtime, but are some respawns bigger than others? It was real fun, and every mining session since then has been rather a letdown...

I remember the time when the roids held like 150k+ units, took a few more cycles

They are directly proportional to the inflated ego of the average goon, that might be why you started noticing them all of a sudden.
I object to being called an atheist, as there is no common denominator for people who do not believe in unicorns either. |

Yeah, too bad we only get small roids now. Imo the rois respawn system needs to be reworked a bit :P. Few but bigger roids would be better imo.

Edited by: Shan''Talasha Mea''Questa on 16/02/2009 15:46:00 I recall the same problem back in 2004-2005 when mining in high-sec, them we took our corp into low-sec and mine some Jaspet and were awed by the sheer size of the Veldspar and Scordite asteroids in those belts... we ditched the Jaspet plan and dug a nice hole in the belt and came back for the Jaspet when their asteroids had grown a bit again.
Some ores in some belts are heavilty overmined... and high-high-sec... is usually stripped bare with a regular interval. Better fly missions and look for ore spawns in there.

Uhhhh... I usually mine in a ship.... with modules....
Other than that, I have no idea why this post is here. -----------------------------------------------

It is possible to find high sec asteroids that are large. Earlier this week I found a 0.9sec system with Veldspar roids that had upwards of 70k units in each of them.

Indeed. All the smart mining and industy corps have long ago moved to mission mining. Rat bounties + mission rewards + plus standings to get even moar refined minerals and pos rights + refined rat loots + safeish deadspace to mine the roids = Epic win. Also mission mining gets bonus points for having a pretty enviroment to enjoy as your strips gently whoosh away the roids.

I still mine those regularly, in high-sec, you just need to spend some effort looking and get out of 0.9 and 1.0
