Please, for the children's sake, don't push that monstrosity live.
No one wants it, it's pretty damn ugly, and it would hurt my feelings to see it ingame.
Booo change.

I'm loving the look of it, even though it's quite big (and I play with a 1680x1050 resolution..).. It only requires a close button and being able to move imho. But I have to admit what others have said before me, CCP should let the players choose between the old and the new fitting screen through a simple tick box in the settings menu.

I fail to see why the majority of space is taken up by the ship?
I see the ship in space, I don't need to see the big model of it whilst fitting it. Scrap the ship in the middle and reutilize the space this creates.
Everything seems so squashed up compared to the old fitting screen. You seriously recruited experience UI developers? :/

So what about the 13.3" on my XPS m1330? That 90's, or does the dual 2.5 and 8400GS video make it non-90s?

Actually, in space, cambat wise, you rarely see anything but a red cross versus your dot.

Not quite. The 90s are over — monitor size no longer has any connection to resolution.
Also, the 90s are over — static, non-customisable UI components are out. As are pointless transparencies that clutter the UI and distracts from the information value. As are mutually exclusive modal windows/folders. As are are filterless information dumps.
…so it may look nice:ish, and may display a bit more information, but it certainly has less functionality. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

You're not alone. I'd love the new one but it needs some more love. Transparency slider, movable/resizable, close button but they are some miner tweaks from my pov. You need some time to get used to the new one but it actually features some more information and most important it looks like a game ui.
The old one worked well but I guess it's time for some new fresh looking stuff which doesn't have the excel feeling anymore. I never really liked the old one and always hoped for a new though I never really complained about it since CCP stated always they'll overhaul the UI of eve and for me it was logical to asume fitting screen would be somewhere on that list.
I really look forward to future projects like a new assets manager and S&I interface which are really a pain in the backside right now. ----------------------------- OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! Contract me all your stuff so I can save it! |

As you can read in the Dev Bog, this is done because of the Tech 3 ships - they do actually change in shape and size after all, so being able to see them when you're assembling and fitting one should be a good thing.
Also, the fitting screen that one can find on Singularity right now is not the latest version, as a fair number of the concerns I see listed in this thread have either been solved already or will be taken care of soon.

Not too long ago the fitting screen was only accessible through the station services screen... couldn't resize, couldn't close... looks like we could be reverting somewhat ;)

Tries to explain to noob: "In the low slots you fit armor stuff, in the mids shield stuff or electronic warfare, in the high slots you put weapon and other offensive stuff"
Noob responds: "What are you talking about? Everything is in a big circle, there is nothing lower then others?"
This and ofcourse that I cant actually see anything if I have any other screens open >.> Transparency FTL

The new fitting screen is pretty nice. Sure, some issues here and there, but they're working on it. Once they can render the ship in the window instead of through a hole in the window, they can even make the screen smaller and moveable - which seems to be the major concern people have - we'll except for the "I'm retro, I want eve to be a commandline game"-concern which seems to apply here.

…also, last time I tried it, it made it quite hard to use my modules as I tend to sort them in container rather than spread them all over the hangar floor. It certainly looks nice. As for functionality, I'm not using test server, but it seems lacking. The ring is basically consisting of those curved racks from the old fitting window, the lower and middle one being extended a bit to facilitate the full circle.
And someone mentioned a command line, plus the dev blog mentioned "we didn't want another...so we..." In the end, it's all based on 1's and 0's. The display is just what we see, why not give us some chance to customize the fitting window to our liking? By making those racks movable, the info window customizable from "esc" option, to show what we want it to show us(all the stats, the old one never displayed ships number of sensor points(gravimetric, magnetometric and so on...)
In the end, the art is amazing. One thing that I am sure of is: people prefer functionality over pointless looks. Don't let us down with another drool-pulling, but nerve-wrecking interface.

I use a 24" and a 19" monitor as a dual-screen setup, but I often run 3+ clients on those monitors in windows, thus requiring a lower resolution that the monitor supports. That works well now. Why force a resolution change which detracts from the usefullness of the game in its current state and exceeds the stated minimum resolution requirements for the sake of non-functional eye candy? Gameplay should always take precedence over graphics. I like the idea of addin more information to the fitting window, but it could just as easily be added to the current one. Take the current fitting window, add an expansion tab to the left for the added info and a tab to the right for the t3 content. Problem solved. All the usefullness of the current setup is preserved and all the new content is added as well.
