This method also will help makeing sure you can have differnt profiles for all characters and for differnt scenarios
SuperSpeed 9 works great for Windows XP, if you have 4GB RAM then XP [32bit] will not be using it all and superspeed can - you'll have less use for this with a 64Bit operating system there are other RAM disks available these can help
now take a nice new installed copy of eve say you have installed it to d:\nolife\eve
and your RAM disk is setup to be h:
Create a batch file in d:\nolife i.e. RamEVE.bat and add the following to it :-
@echo off Set ram=h:\ set Char=noone if NOT "%1"=="" set char=%1 set home=%ram%%char% mkdir "%home%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE" mkdir "%home%\My Documents" Set USERPROFILE=%home% Set HOMEDRIVE=%home:~0,2% Set HOMEPATH="%home:~2%" Start "EvE" "d:\nolife\eve\Eve.exe"
now you can create a new shortcut and when it ask for the target then find the bacth file and add a Chracter name to the end i.e. RaTTuS d:\noline\RamEve.bat RaTTuS and then name it sensibly - i.e. Rat Tq.bat - or whatever
you then can setup the display how you like - with the brackets setup etc - and if you save off the h:\rattus\Local settings\application Data\ccp\eve\ data somewhere safe and they can be put back whenever you trash them -
you can setup empire | market | 0.0 | lowsec | profiles and they will not interfear with each other
you could also setup a Sisi version in a similar way

Edited by: Agent Unknown on 18/02/2009 23:33:05 He's talking about making different profiles in a different location depending on what you want. The only downfall is that the "free" version of the program cannot save image files, so you'd lose the RAM disk on shutdown.
I recommend using a virtual disk program like TrueCrypt if you want a different drive.
Edit: Although, the program has its uses for other things :D ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

It isn't, so you are unlikely to see any improvement for your effort.

There are other RAM disks you can use this one will use the hidden memory if it can
and you will see a massive improvement if you have every been in a fleet battle -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve

No it can't

No it won't.
A 32bit address space can address UP TO 4096MB of RAM - 4GB.
Due to compromises and a lack of farsight many years ago, it was decided that it was a good idea to "shadow" certain peripherals into the address space.
Hey, your machine has 512KB of RAM and the entire address space is 4GB - nobody is going to use that space EVER, right? ;)
The practical downside of this is that video RAM is something that is shadowed. Now, I have 2x768MB cards in an SLI setup, and that 1.5GB of video RAM is shadowed into the main address space, meaning that the most that a 32bit OS has available to it is 2.5GB.
You cannot get this "lost" space back as it is used to map your video RAM and other peripherals. Trust me on this one, you CANNOT get this back as it *IS* being used - the 4GB limit is a limit on addressable RAM installed ANYWHERE in the system - main RAM and video RAM all together.
Yes there are things such as PAE and various switches that can be used to alter process image size limits, but they cannot and do not increase the maximum amount of RAM that a 32bit system can address - so I call shenanigans on any claim that a ramdisk can improve fleet battle performance.
If you want to use more system ram then install a 64bit system. Yes your video RAM is still shadowed into the address space, but it's so high up that it's not going to be a problem for decades if that.

Ok maybe not massive - however- it does improve things if you use a RAM disk for this - this is stuff that eve uses
re- the 3.25 GB RAm limit on 32bit OS's - I know this is one of the bug bares I have.
----edit
this method also means you can have the eve files on another drive than your windows system - i.e. if you want to leave no trace of eve on a machine then you can set this up so everything points at a memory stick

Other players have already stated that Eve is not I/O bound so I'm really not seeing what benefit you get from moving from HDD access speeds to RAM.
I suppose there might be a benefit if you don't want to leave a trace of Eve on a machine, but I prefer the uninstall option personally :)

See above.

A 32bit address space can address 4GB, not 3.25 GB.
What your BIOS will present to your OS as system RAM will vary depending on what has been shadowed into the address space.
In your case you may have a 768MB graphics card so your OS will only ever be able to see 3.25GB, but in my case I have 2 cards with 768MB of RAM, so if I ran a 32bit OS then it would only be able to see 2.5GB.
I run Vista 64Bit, so it's not a problem for me :)

yeah I'm stuck with XP on this machine for the foreseeable future - 4GB [well 3.25 etc] XP64 with 8GB is fine but I dont have one myself -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve
