Think of it as the same as mining like natural afterburner the more ore/min u put in it the faster it goes the less fuel the slower "u liking it" say less fuel u go, -15 less speed then norm, and more fuel +15 speed.
u can store the ore in the same princaple as cargohold

You know, an idea actually has some promise. It would be a pain in the ass, but it would be more realistic to have to dock and refuel on occasion, even if only to replace your fuel rods or whatever.
Using MWD and AB would increase fuel consumption greatly, as well as heavy combat (all the power needed from normal idle levels)
It could spawn a new class of ships (tankers), as well as new player structures (quickie mart)
Long journeys would require refueling, and extended combat operations in unfriendly areas would require you to bring your own fuel with you.
Interesting idea to discuss. Do I think it will ever happen? Probably not. Do I think that all sorts of folks will hate the whole premise? Absolutely.
And after I typed this entire post, I realized the original author was talking about something not even close to what I thought he was.
So I'll shut up and mine now.

I have no idea what the original author was talking about, but I'm down for the ship fuel idea. It's nothing that could be done anytime in the near future as it would probably rely heavily on POS and we'll have to see exactly how they're implemented.

Idea 1
Most Realistic: an addition on the application of mining ore. Now the most realistic would be to loss all power on moving or to lose control of your ship. Maybe if you run out of fuel u should have a shuttle "used in the same way as an escape pod" with a simple mining laser and a small cargohold and go to the nearest belt and resupply the ship, with say a timer on ure ship until it loses life support and ure crew dies, and the ship and be taken over.
Idea 2
Semi Realistic: This could be considered a bonus, to the different types of ore given there could be different boosts, u could consider rare ore like biscot giving you a faster boost, ie 15% for longer periods of time then normal ore like veldspar say 10%. Now when u dont have the ore, or run out, your ship would go 20%avg slower then normal.
or the ship fuel could be considered a market thing like making ure own "power rod" like ammo.
I hope that was better explained this time

i always assumed the ships were powered by a fusion reactor, and were fueled for life upon commisioning, and that the reaction mass is replenished by space dust(what else could those things that look like airscoops be? think Bussard Ramjet). My Idea Thread

thats power and yes they prob are powered by something that lasts forever/extremely long time >< but i want a tanker >< and id still like fuel... adds more depth to the game ;p

Would be wonderous if that worked in reality. $2 - $4 a gallon price range in USA. That's expensive to fill up a tank of gas.
