Well, is this going to happend. Can we have a Blood Raider Pope that acts like a Pope and not like a ghey choirboy.
Wouldn't that be something

The AI will be applied to the sleepers for now. Maybe to officer spawns, but not sure if this is still on the table. Putting it on all NPCs at once would be not good move, because this could backfire a lot, when people get surprised by it. Also it might need more CPU cycles from the server and thus bring mission hubs to their knees.

For broader testing, you could add the AI to some named Mission-Spawns like Zor or Tiogo Kargaz.
Quote: After many years and the loss of countless ships at the hands of capsuleers, Zor finally decided to get a flight exam through general educational development.

This will be cool if it can be implemented.
Will be nice if the Extravaganzas bonus rooms can be dialed down in number of Ships/Sentries and add some intelligence.

Yes I can see the problem, but it would be nice to see them act a little more intelligent.
As for the backfire and whining effect, we have had a fair share of that before, but ppl adapt and move on. Remember the first week after Exodus, the return of Zor, the Rogue Navy Fleet, hell I forgot the name on most of them. Ppl started losing ships east and west and the forums cried out for help. Today it's all forgotten.
Anyways, thanks for the swift reply.

More AI, less ships... less lag? Certainly more interesting missions.
Just add them as new missions, don't bother updating the old ones, and slowly phase out the old missions over time. Alternatively you could just add in "Elite" missions to go alongside the predictable, boring, grindfest that is standard EVE PvE.

Yeah putting this new AI onto named NPC ships in missions would be a nice balancing factor. Maybe have a couple of lieutenants that they can spider tank with too :)

Current sleeper combat reports are from fighting the toughest sleepers the devs can spawn and not representative of average and lowgrade sleeper abilities.

If all the old PvE content were removed it wouldn't drive the noobs off, they wouldn't miss it. It'd drive off those who are used to activate reps, warp in, F1, F1, F1, F1.... that are worried by the prospect of actually doing something to earn that ISK.
Not that removal of the content would likely ever happen, after all a lot of work went into those missions but your automatic assumption that AI ships can't be scaled down by reduced numbers or stats is a little odd. The NPC's we have are dumb and uninteresting and lead to moments like this, where I'm running missions while posting on the forums because mission running takes virtually none of my attention at all. Earning money nigh AFK is nice, but it devalues... well just about everything.
Noobs on the other hand could benefit immensely from access to smart NPC's that act like players but have reduced stats. It eases you in nicely, keeps your attention, and as difficulty scales up provides an actual PvE experience as opposed to a factory assembly line simulator (5.90 to bush buttan every few mins) and with added risk would come added reward allowing the casual player to earn more ISK in less time if they play well.
No one said that kind of content shouldn't be soloable or that they should take a length of time inappropriate for a casual player.

Edited by: Brazero on 22/02/2009 14:45:49 My reason for asking this, was/is to make the PVE part of EVE abit more interesting. And I'm not talking about Sleepers in normal space or dead space. I'm talking about giving those NPC's we currently know the new brain the Sleepers seem to have.
Let them dodge fire, speedtank, primary and all the things we hear about from W-space, but let them keep their original specs like E-War, Shield tanking, Armor tanking, Nos/Neut, and so on....Then reduce the numbers maybe to get less lag. There are currently way to many small/medium ships in missions and in belt spawns.
Just a thought, not very important in the grand total. But still, could be more fun for alot of the players.

As far as I know, all NPCs are getting changed with Apocrypha, but only sleepers and possibly officers are getting the new "smart" scripts. Rats on Sisi actually warp now O.o
Was surprised when I wanted to test out the new effects and went ratting. Came to an emtpy belt and thought "bugger" and initiated warp. Suddenly, three cruisers and two battleships warp in om me O.o
<3 that, CCP! ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |
