I am looking for a large capacity mp3 player that is not an ipod. Creative and iRiver don't seem to make anything bigger than 32GB anymore which means I would run out of room the moment I loaded my music.
Any suggestions?

Edited by: Sokratesz on 22/02/2009 18:34:27 I've got a 32gb Creative Zen and am extremely pleased with it - if you really need the extra space you can add SD cards up to 16gigs.
Why would you need more than 32? I've got 2500 songs on it and 15 dvd movies (slightly compressed tho) and still have space left.

Edited by: Elysarian on 22/02/2009 18:50:56 First off: My fiancee has a pathological hatred for all things Apple but she now owns an ipod classic 120GB because according to Sony, Creative etc there is "no demand" for larger capacity MP3 players.
However there are alternatives if you can cope with a larger device (and of course screen) like this (not the web-book ofc).
Edit: the Archos goes up to 250GB too whereas the ipod classic only goes up to 120GB.

What can I say. I have a lot of music and most of it is ripped at 192 rather than 128.
And as for ipods, rightly or wrongly I am not a Mac person. Being forced to use their software to sync the device is annoying. I freely admit it is a technological prejudice.

Archos kit is expensive but nice. I've Got the 250Gb 605 myself and it's decent, though Archos are an absolute bastard when it comes to extras - everything is expensive. If all you need is an MP3/4 player though, it does the job pretty well.
Cowon kit is pretty decent too. ---

I'm sure you will find a player eventually but here's a recommendation: With so much memory you should stop using mp3's, especially the shoddy quality of 192kbps and start converting to FLAC format. Lossless audio for the win.

Having gone through several non-iPod players the iPod nano (16Gb isn't too pricey) is the only one that has survived > 2 years. Winamp will do the sync thing for you so no need for the iBloat software...

Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 23/02/2009 14:17:48 If you are not against buying used and can find one from a reputable dealer I would suggest picking up an I-River H-340.
I purchased the I-River H-340 4 years back. The battery died a year and half ago, but I can still replace the battery and upgrade to a 60g drive (I have heard of people cramming in an 80 gig hard drive) according to what I have read. I have just not taken the time time order the parts yet.
The H-340 is a little on the large side but it is easy to use since it works just like the windows explorer, you file up and down to get to folders and scroll foward and backward in and out of files. The display is nice and crisp and it still was beautiful as one of the first full color screens, and the sound is excellent.
