Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 24/02/2009 10:11:45 Since we know peolpe will get 60 days of "gametime" with the box, here's what i see in my crystal flarn;
Rabble rabble how everyone's rich now. Old players will sell the two GTCs, take isk, keep box for funsies. Difference minimal. New players will enter game, use half to get iskies, get bored because too much iskies at start=no fun. Lots of ships blowing up, pirates drool, manufacturers rejoice. People will complain, new flames will swarm the forums, people will get grumpy. Iskies will fly, things will rabble and finally...
We return to normal.
So, to the players playing now, i suggest this;
Set a 1-2 month long skill on march 9th. Shut down computer. Go spend family time. Go do homework. Build that birds nest you've always wanted. Go have a beer. Go visit iceland.
Then come back, step over the wreckages and resume EVE as it is with new shiny toys

I don't care about any players new or old. I only care about my own enjoyment which involves the game being merciless.
Do we know that the box contains GTCs that can be sold as opposed to just a code that allows the individual purchaser to access two months of game time?

According to the mmorpg interview, it's a convertable plex time.
If old players can use it, don't know really. I think they will 'cause there's a "redeem items" thing.
I consider the plex given with the box a "6 years of loyal customer service" reward

I've looked at prices for the boxes and have seen 19.99 flying around for us UK.
CCP is trying so hard to get as many new players as it can (more money) and us UK customers are so screwed by their tax and their dollar conversion rate (more money, takes ecomomic trouble with UK government out on UK citizens)that it if the 60 days worth of game time comes in the form of codes I'll be purchasing several dozen boxed copies. :p

We'll see a change, those of us who just get on with the game will barely even notice it.
Or care.
Those who play the game to whine about every little discrepancy will spend months posting on the forums until they find something bigger to whine about.
End of story.

If the box does come with GTCs inside it could crash the market when all these new codes hit the bazaar.

Edited by: Suneai on 24/02/2009 11:24:34 I've pre-ordered one box so far to test the in-box GTC, if it works I'm buying more since they'll be cheaper than buying a plain GTC.
As for the possible mess to come with M10, I'm just going to sit in one of my remote outposts for a month doing a bit of mining & manufacturing until it passes.

The good sherriff is bang on there. Nothing will change in the long run. Oh, we'll notice more people around, maybe a few technical issues, and an increase in the flow of isk in the economy, but it won't change the game in the long run.
Frankly, I look forward to the influx. More people spending money buying stuff I manufacture, which then enables me to build my manufacturing base quicker, allowing me to make more money quicker, and allowing me to spend more on PVP.
As long as the lag is managed, which I'm sure it will, I see no downside.
For all of those people who say 'eve is dying', there are two things you have to remember:
Firstly, any company running an MMO for any length of time is fully aware of the almighty clusterfeck that Sony did with Star Wars Galaxies, and will strive to avoid repeating the same mistake. Honestly, if you can screw up a licence to print money like the Star Wars brand like that, you've got to wonder about your business sense. CCP will not risk a cash cow to gain a piggy bank.
Secondly, nothing lasts forever, not even EVE. There will come a time when it will no longer be viable, or something will supercede it. I hope it lasts for a long time, but you have to appreciate the fact that it will someday wind down. And if you want it to have a long lifespan, it is going to have to attract more players, which of course means change. Change is necessary. As so many people like to crow: "adapt or die".

I never thought of doing that. /me cracks open piggy bank. >.<
BTW I get my money from Mining. Getting DTCs is for looser and poor people. (and people that ****ed up, lost a hulk, and had no money to replace it...) /me looks at the crowd. What!? yeah... I know, I ****ed up... ---

Tinfoilhat moment : CCP taken over by ALIENS !
"As Romania has entered the EU, we will have to change your subscription to the EU subscription plan, which includes VAT. [...] This change will take place on the 2nd of March 2009 and your subscription will automatically change to the EU subscription plan. However, you will not be charged according to the new plan until the next payment is due. This means that the change will not apply to the payment you have already made to your account but it will affect all your future payments."
Romania : member of the EU since 1st of January 2007 There must have been aliens, CCP wouldn't have bothered checking that
