Why are most ships making a MINUS profit for building them from scratch using minerals. The Charon, Drake and various others I have been looking at building all either break even or you actually make a loss!
Am I missing something? |

Might they already own all the BPO's and have them researched and made the funds to recover that investment, and now just sell at market prices? I like cats, especially with General Tso's sauce

Edited by: Shadow Vincentius on 24/02/2009 20:27:30 You can make a small amount of profit on some ships if you are willing to travel quite a bit, but time/ISK ratio wise it really isn't worth it. I really hope the T3 patch will rectify this long term. |

Because people value their time at zero
Just buy, reprocesses and then sell the mins back to them so they can rinse and repeat |

a hi me/pe bpc for a BC runs about 1.5m for a 15 RUN and most cost about 7M under retail in mins to build, how are you not making money?

edit: misread the post.
Very few BCs run 7 million under retail in material costs in high sec. Also as soon as people like myself start checking regions out the profit margins go down fast when tons of them are dumped on the market and the competition gets going for sales.
Lowsec and 0.0 might be another story, but I don't have the experience in that area.

1. Go here and download spreadsheet. 2. Enter mineral and desired ship buy/sell order prices, optionally also BPC per run average cost, and your skill levels. 3. ??? 4. PROFIT !!!
But yeah, BCs in highsec usually sell for barely 3 mil markup above material cost (at ME:10 or thereabouts). Then again, that's a ~10% markup, which is kind of consistent across most T1 ship hulls. __

Charon? Last time I checked, you could make ~100m if you have all of the blueprint

Charon and Obby are about the only freighters that consistently earn 10-20% margin.
The others fluctuate all over the place at times, even to the point of below cost. |

I've always been unclear on how to do this best. I know standings will reduce reprocessing waste, but I don't have them and don't really plan on acquiring them either.
What I'm not clear on is what skills effect re-processing, and to what degree. I've never really found a link to a mathmatical formula. So I'm not really sure what sort of loss % I would experience reprocessing ships. Without that info it's difficult to be able to know precisely when buying and reprocessing is profitable.
Can anyone give me a linky to the reprocessing formula, or just tell me how it works?

It's exactly the same as for minerals; replace ore specific processing with scrap metal processing. _______________ <Q> QUANT Hegemony A man creates; A parasite asks 'Where is my share?' Item Database

That's really not a problem as long as refining will get you 100% of the minerals back out, if anything drops below the cost of the minerals, someone, somewhere, will fix that situation very quickly.
The only times things can be sustained at less than their production cost due to the 'what I mine is free' syndrome is in T2 building where you don't get back what you put in if refined, an oversupply in the market can only be corrected by lowering the price.
