I opened this topic here as suggested from 1 of the game's gms.If it's in the wrong place pls move it.
I got an email yesterday saying that new monthly tax is 14,95 euros, instead of 14,95 dolars, which in euros its about 12,95 and that responsible for this tax change is the VAT payed in the EU.
Now what i don't understand is 2 things:
First of all the VAT payed in the EU,didn't just come up from nowhere in february 2009,it,s been here for a while,so why the sudden increase in monthly tax?
And second of all,if the VAT is payed by all EU members no matter what mmo they play, how come eve-online is so far the only major mmo, that has increase the monthly tax?
For example Lord of the rings online:14,99 dollars per month-12,99 euros per month vat included. http://community.lotro-europe.com/faq.php?type=Billing#Billing
World of Warcraft:14.99 dolars 1 month http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21450 12.99 euros http://www.wow-europe.com/en/requirements/subscription.html
Warhammer Online: 14,99 dollars 1 month http://www.warhammeronline.com/faq/subscription_fees.php
12.99 euros 1 month http://www.war-europe.com/#/faq/?lang=en
And at all 3 games it says clearly, vat include.
So if all other mmos included vat in their monthly tax and 14,99 dollars=12,99 euros, how come in eve-online with vat included 14,95 dollars=14,95 euros?
Is there any real reason for this tax increase or is it just a mean of getting more money out of unsuspecting customers?

It is clearly either a mix-up or some sort of rip off. I for one will not pay more for a subs just because I am from the UE. EVen so, you can clearly see that other MMOs have lower rates.

If you don't like it, don't pay it (and go play one of the other games you mentioned.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Iceland in the Euro-zone and therefore CCP have to be VAT registered?
The other games you mentined aren't Europe-based and therefore don't have to pay VAT?

That's what you get for living in a country that taxes virtual items/services. Buy timecodes if you are really that worried about it ------------------------------------

EVE has always used a 1 $ = 1 Ç exchange rate. If you are a EU player and for a period you had a system to pay the subscription at US cost, good for you, but that is not the right rate in EU.

Iceland is a part of Europe, yes, but not a part of the European Union.

Edited by: Valegresch on 26/02/2009 14:58:32 The email sounds abit suspicious to me. If the euro cost went up, wouldn't the dollar cost have increased as well?

Each of the games i mentioned, have different resellers in the eu,who collect the monthly tax, lotro has codemasters in the uk,warhammer has goa in france, wow i think it's based in france too so u pay vat to all of them when u pay the monthly tax,but still their monthly taxes r lower then the ones in eve.
Second of all if i dont like whats happening,at least i got the right to ask why it's happening, after all the email stated that in case i need more info i should adress to the eve support, which i did and he directed me to post on the forum.
After all what did they expect?they send me an email, telling me my subcription is getting more expensive(which is a first for me since i started playing mmos, afaik the monthly tax its set when they launch the game and remains the same as long as the game is on the market) and i,m just suposed to say ok sure heres more money? It's my money,i work for it and when someone asks me to give him more,i want to know why.
I just wanted to know why suddenly this change of currency from dollars to euros, since vat it's around for a while and my country been a member of the eu from 2007,they just forgot all this time to charge me for vat? Why the other mmos altough the monthly tax is vated too, have the tax in dollars transformed in euros and since the dollar its weaker then the euro it makes sense that 14.95 dollars= 12,95 euros,u cant just equivalate the dollar with the euro,it's too different curencies.
Tbh i think they doing the same thing that happened on Steam they just making 1 dolar= 1 euro, and that way more money can be gained.

We Europeans are on average significantly richer than our North American brethren .. as in our purchasing power exceeds that of the US consumer.
Those two Euros that we are over-charged compared to an American customer is barely a pint at a pub, not exactly earth shattering in my book.
If it irks you so then report it to The European Ombudsman, his primary goal is to insure fair market practises within the EU's borders. I think that's the office that handles those kind of cases, there will be a link to the proper office if it is not .. the Europa.eu site is pretty damn extensive.

Maybe you should take it up with the people that enacted VAT?
Higher costs for ccp means you pay more.
