Hi, i recently got myself eve online and wasted a lot of time mining things, trading things and running missions. Now i want to try out some pvp, maybe even 0.0 with the right corp.
I recon that its best to start pvp in small ships (assault frigs / interceptors) as those have the lowest skill requirements?
If so, what race should i go for? I heard that for example the caldari are a no go and that minmatar are also not that good for a newbie cause they need too much skills?
I would really love some advice on which assault ship / interceptor i should train for 0.0 / corp pvp and what the pros / cons are maybe as i have no clue at all and i don't want to train like for a specific race before knowing the pros and cons :).

What type of PvP would you like to try, would you like to do large fleet? or small gangs?

An excellent guide. It is a beginner's piracy guide, but the PvP stuff is the same whether you're a pirate or not

I'd say start in frigs and cruisers. If you have isk to spare AFs and intys are nice, but the notion that you have to fly something t2 to pvp is wrong imo.

Very true - T2 is nice for PvP, but doesn't guarantee survival. There's a lot more in tactics and skill (player skill, not in-game skills books), than in what hull you choose.
Take a look at the Agony-Unleashed web site for some info on our PvP-Basic class - it's a public class, so there's no need to join our corp (although if you graduate from Basic, joining Agony becomes a possibility).

Some Minmatar ships take a lot of SP to use correctly but those are a long ways up the skill tree. Minmatar has arguably the strongest T1 frig for pvp. The rifter is a good jack of all trades and can easily fit a plate tank mwd weapons or you can nano fit or any one of the dozens of good fits there are for it.
If you really want to learn to pvp whether it is solo, small gang, or large fleet basic ship handling skills like cap and module management, keeping your transversal where you want it, and just basic situational awareness are a must. These things can really only be learned by practice. So what you really need is a lot of practice which isn't really to hard to come by.
If i had to learn all over again this is what I would do. Go buy 20 rifters or t1 frig of your choice. Join a FW militia (I would advise the Amarr/Minmatar war) and then just go get them blown up. Don't bother fitting t2 just t1 modules maybe some decent meta guns but the entire ship shouldn't cost more than 1.5mil fit. Just fly around and fight anything that moves. You will lose tons of ships but thats alright. If your loseing alot of ships that means you are fighting alot so you are getting alot of experiance. Most of the militas run fleets fairly regularly so just join them and learn some more.
If you want to solo pvp you really need to learn how most of the ships in the game are flown and what are the popular fits are. Example: Ships like the Omen Stabber Zealot have little to no drone bay. Midslots are also at a premium so they are unlikely to have a web. This means that if you get your frigate in to a 500m orbit with your web and scram on them they have little to no options to shake you off.
Basically my opinion is that PVP has to be learned in the Sink or Swim method. Go buy a bunch of ships of your choice that are still decent ships when t1 fit and go get killed.
P.S. T2 ships are not automatically better pvp ships than T1 and a bigger ship is not always better.

Which race are you primary trained for? If you answer Minmatar or Gallente then the two ships you want to get to love are the Rupture and Thorax (maybe the Vexor depending on your drone skills) *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

As a 4 month old newbie who is just about to move to Curse, I'd recommend finding a really good T1 Cruiser build and speccing for that. That's what I'm doing with my Arbitrators. ________________________________________________

What you need to do to get started pvping: GO OUT THERE AND DO IT!
Figure out which T1 frig from your chosen race is best and get a decent fit for it. T1 or cheap named will do fine. Build 10x of this cheap setup and remember to insure your ship before you head out. Your gonna die a lot. Deal with it.
NOW: If your a pirate read the pirate guide referenced above, strap on your eye patch, and YARRRR!!!!!
IF YOUR NOT A PIRATE: I recommend just going ahead and joining the militia thats on the same side as whoevers space you have been running missions in. Head into low sec(ask militia where the action is), look for dudes with red stars in local. Attack them,DIE learn from mistake, try again. You can also ask in your militia chat for a group. You should be able to get one in short order.
The important thing is to grow some balls and go out there and pvp. Ive found that there is enough stuff blowing up out in low sec in the fac war areas that if you fly a t1 frig and scoop up as much loot as you can that you can make a fair bit of money, easily enough to replace your t1 frigs.

Looting abandoned wreaks in belts can yield some T1 mods to offset that cost too :D
Although, you do aggro yourself to 4-5 different corps in the process, so don't do it when it gets busy ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

Best post ever, tbh.
The whole (short) time I was in the noob channel all I ever heard about was how you couldn't PVP as a new character. Bah! Rubbish!
I killed a much older player than myself on day 1 or 2. I killed an Omen and a Hulk in my Punisher on my 3rd or 4th day in the game. You won't get it done sitting in the station talking about it, and you won't get it done by listening to those nubs in the starter npc corp chats.

i am flying caldari.
so today i fitted a kestrel with 3 missile launcher, an ab and not much else because too few powergrid and cpu and went into low sec to train some scanning and maybe pirating
Ending up flying arround for like 2 hours finding nothing and then being killed and ransomed by a pirate in a rifter - couldnt even get his shields down :(.
I guess low sec is not a good place to be in with a newbie frigate
But i learned a lot about scanning today. Just don't t hink that that kestrel is a good ship for roaming in a belt especially because i can't even fit 4 missile launchers - what skills i am lacking? Weapon upgrades? :)

Wrong lesson to learn. Your opponent--flying in lowsec with a newbie frigate--did alright. Here are some better lessons: (1) Rifters are great solo PvP frigates, Kestrels less so. (2) Fitting skills are important. (3) Something about your missiles made them less than effective against a Rifter's shields.

Take a pvp training class from one of the many pvp schools
Buy and fit 10 frigs, go out and lose them.
You can lose them by
1 Going to low sec and attacking flashies or waiting for people to attack (baiting sometimes works) 2 Going to 0.0 and attacking all that pass 3 Join the militia (or a corp that is in militia) and join some fleets
I really think after I lost my first 10 frigs I had most of my questions answered.
(Incidentally I pilot mainly Minnie and the Rifter is pretty nice, but I would just basically go with whatever race you are and train core skills for now, the apply to any ship you fly)

You could always try a Merlin, a little bit tougher than a Kestrel but uses a mix of missles and hybrids. Here's a no-skill fit:

Rocket Kestrels are quite deadly in the right hands, actually!
Here's a quick little build I threw together. You'll need to train for a bit to use the microwarp drive on this build, and the Tech 2 rockets will require Rockets V, but it's a nifty little ship that can throw out DPS with T2 thorns, tackle, and maintain a speed of over 2000 m/s with cap stability if you train the energy management skills a bit.
[Kestrel, Rocket Kessie] Capacitor Power Relay I Cross-linked Bolt Array I
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Faint Warp Disruptor I Cap Recharger I
Rocket Launcher II, Thorn Rage Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Thorn Rage Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Thorn Rage Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Thorn Rage Rocket
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Alternatively, you can trade the Rocket Launcher 2s for some Arbelest launchers and swap the MWD for an afterburner. You'll lose a lot of speed, but with the extra CPU it frees up and the reduced capacitor drain, you can throw a second Cross-Linked Bolt Array in place of the Cap Power Relay for more DPS. With the right skills, you could even maintain cap stability by swapping out the Cap Recharger for a small shield booster, though you'd have to run it sparingly to avoid draining your cap.
The Kestrel is a very underestimated ship, and with the right skills and fittings it can be a very annoying, hard-to-hit little pest with a very effective sting.
