Well roleplayingly chances are someone that wasnt trying to hide would have a computer alert him when something like a ship entered the max range of his sensors.
To be logical there should be an autoscan with the range of your scanner in the game if they are removing local. After all you can scan that far manually so why wouldnt a computer be able to do it for you? Which of course is generally system wide so i guess its just illogical to remove local~
What doesnt make any sense to me is saying: It doesnt make any sense to us that players should appear on local when your right there on my darn scan for the system.
Its a puzzle. For my two cents they should be a long range stealth mid slot that doesnt hide you from the nearbye autoscan but does hide you from long range "autoscan" (ie local).
But it should be consistant. Either your not on the scanner at all or your presence should be alerted to me by my computer.

Edited by: Qutsemnie on 11/08/2004 11:23:36 Short version: The current way they are heading with local is just an exercise in tedium unless they add an addition filtered long range scan to the scan page (ie an autoscan that is at your maxrange but has less info). The reason is its available anyway to the player that wants to camp his scanner but why make players do that? Its not at all illogical to have people show in local when their ships are right there on my scanner~

Edited by: Qutsemnie on 11/08/2004 13:33:43 Edited by: Qutsemnie on 11/08/2004 11:54:59 I would rather see a sophisticated long range autoscanning system instead of local but im just saying local was a nice metaphor for such a system. If they are going to remove the metaphor for long range auto scanning then they ought to build long range autoscanning into the game.
I shouldnt have to go line by line over and over. As a player im supposed to responsible for the big fun decisions not the tedius stuff my toon is assumed to be doing. Also im sure computerized help would be in order. Eve software programmers [edit:not CCP developers im imagining eve universe software programers here] can code a computerized drone that can fight a battle by the dozen but they cant give me a computer that can filter out the asteroids on my long range scanner and just show me the ships?
Suspension of disbelief is suffering...
Maybe longrange auto scan should be a mid slot module. So if scouts wanted an aid they could mount the long range auto scanner.
