Armored Drake is a workable but unconventional PvP setup that you only rarely see. I wouldn't try it in missions, for two reasons. The first is that armor buffers are not viable for missions due to the fact that they don't recharge HP like shields, and the second is that there's no way to tank with armor on a Drake nearly as well as you can tank with shields. One armor repper on a battlecruiser that fits plates in the other lows won't provide the tank you need for missions, since resistance mods are so essential.
There are two main types of Drake mission setups that I'm aware of, the shield regen tank and the shield resistance buffer tank. I don't like the regen tank because you don't have room for BCUs in the lows. My setup that solo's any level 4 without having to warp off, with rare exceptions, is as follows. If you like it run it in EFT with your skills, because it's fitting-intensive. If you can't fit it, I'd almost want to say drop a hardener and keep the burner, because mobility does wonders for reducing incoming damage. Alternatively keep all the hardeners and the burner, but drop down a size on one of the extenders.
HIGH 7x HML II
MID 10mn AB 2x LSE II 3x active hardeners
LOW DCU II 3x BCU II

Drake also has a bonus to shield tanking, so that's your second indication that it's meant to shield tank. A third indication would be that it's a Caldari ship, and most Caldari ships are intended to shield tank.
Having said that, there's nothing wrong with attempting new and unconventional loadouts, so if you want to armor tank it for missions go for it, and don't let the naysayers tell you the only good Drake is a passive shield Drake, because it's not true. You may run into an issue of not having enough lows to fit sufficient armor tanking to tank the missions you want, but if your tanking skills are in Mechanic and not in Engineering then it may work for you. Play around with EFT to know for sure. You'll need about 200 rat-specific tank for L3 missions, and about 600 for L4's - maybe more since without BCUs you'll have mediocre DPS.

Edited by: Chssmius on 02/03/2009 03:27:19 As has been mentioned, the drake's slot layout, bonuses, and that it is caldari heavily lean it to shield tanking.
However, from my experience, an origional/unexpected fit, if otherwise reasonably valid as a pvp platform, can perform exceptionally well on the unawares. Your biggest problem here is your damage mods need lows, as do armor tanking mods. So your tank would not be very significant and your damage would be rather puny.
BUT, you are looking at doing missions and for that I would not bother with armor tanking unless you have absolutely no other choice. Even poor shield tanking skills would probably get better results than armor tanking.
EDIT: --------
Quote:
HIGH 7x HML II
MID 10mn AB 2x LSE II 3x active hardeners
LOW DCU II 3x BCU II
Looks decent, I would throw a Drone Link Augmentor in the high. I actually use the following:
HIGH 7x HML(Meta 1,2, or 4) 1x DLA
MID 1x 10MN AB T2 2x PWNAGE 2x active hardeners T2(mission specific) 1x Large Booster(best named)
LOW 1x PDS T2 3x BCU T2

Why the double painters? What are you shooting with HM's that you have such a hard time hitting?

That's actually not a half-bad idea for L3 missions where shielding isn't that much of an issue, and there's lots of frigates. 2 painters would allow you to split fire - you can take down two frigates at once in short order with 3 heavies and a painter on each. At least that's how I would use that loadout.

I guess you could do that, I have always just let my drones deal with all the frigs while I take care of the Cruisers/BCs.

Sure, but keep in mind that painters do help against cruisers, and with a Drake you'll run out of BCs pretty fast. Once that happens, all you're left with are frigs since your drones will be slower to kill all of them before you kill the bigger ships, then the painters come in handy. Heck, even if you're having drones kill frigs, painting those frigs helps out your drones as well. So any way you slice it, painters are a nice DPS booster. I have a PWNAGE on my L4 ship just for that reason.
