Having reported several isk sellers spamming local with their adverts. And getting the generic, "thanks, we wont tell you anything" GM response, kind of made me think whats the point...
So, rather than rinse and repeat, for no obvious long term improvement. How about a change to make it harder for them?
ISK sellers drop a link into local chat to take you to their site. So...
Just dont allow URLs to be entered into local. Help the newbies by blocking URLs in corp chat too.
If anyone needs to share URLs, they can do it in private convo, or eve-mails. |

Thats a bit harsh now is it? What about if they start using stuff like (dot) instead of the normal . in url's effectivly bypassing the filter? And I'm sure there are other ways as well.
And, to be honest, I higly doubt CCP doesn't filter isk spam links in the background... _

well, blocking url posts for trial accounts wouldn't be that bad I guess.

The only way to really stop it is by making the trial invite only, which is a bad marketing feature, but anyone caught inviting an isk spammer will be investigated and if it looks like they're affiliated ban them both. --- O.P. is made of fail c/d.

How about: user maintained (ie, local copy) Reguilar Expression filters to block text that matches the pattern?
This also lets people filter all the spam in Jita, or other hubs. --- New to the API? GrabRaw XML
It's coming...

oooh. ill take three!
this is pretty much the perfect solution. every time the spammers modify the post, people can modify their filters!
and the devs can make a weekly one to update to all newly made accounts?

Antivirus companies do it.. CCP can do it.
Have a local user modified list of strings that I would like to block, and CCP can have a second list of strings to block, updated at a regular interval. Combine the filters and apply to local chat.
Epic stuff.

YEESSSSSS!!! I've been thinking of exactly the same thing, and it would be win. I can almost guarantee you the player base would have a 99% effective filter done within a week.

I wouldn't mind being able to filter channels based on a regular expression. Would help get rid of a lot of annoying things, not just isk spammers.

Tbh i doubt more than around 30% of eves community even knows what regex is, and even less knows how to use it. But for the rest of us, it would be awesome :)

How about this. Just put in a seperate chat channel dedicated to seller spam? Any account that spams outside of it, insta ban.

Why bother putting up the channel? It's not like either the players nor the spam-bots would actually use it. It should be instant ban for anybody that spams, anywhere.

Why not use it? People that want to buy isk have one congregated place to look. ISK sellers take less flack. Would it hurt to just try it out first?

Isnt the point that isk selling is against the EULA? A dedicated channel to isk selling would kind of send the wrong message. |

A nice "Block and report" option in the popupmenu would already help a lot. I really don't feel like wasting my time in the petion system because CCP doesn't feel the need to implement at least some basic protection against scripted character creation and ISK spam.

Maybe they should change the EULA then. CCP doesn't seem that intersted in stopping it. And if they did, it would impact more than a few pilots. I suspect the real reason CCP bans at least in name the practice is to avoid anyone coming after them if they got scammed.
In truth if they did stomp it out. Eve would risk quite a few casual player subscriptions. Because those people, who usually are causal because of real life demands, would be basically bared from the nicer items in game. Maybe they can't play much, but they pay ccp just as much cash in subscription fees as the rest of us.
If you did create a isk spam channel. It wouldn't allow ccp to track anyone that buys more than what you got now. Unless their dumb enough to hold consersations in the channel. But it would possibly move this shady yet not likely to go practice more out of sight to other gamers.
