So I have to say, despite some initial doubts, this actually is shaping up to look like a really good movie. Especially with Christian Bale starring.
There's a new trailer here that I highly recommend watching. It's at the bottom of the page.
In the same link is an article about 10 interesting things to know about the movie. I'll post a few highlights here.
"Terminator Salvation" is a prequel to 1984's "The Terminator" that takes place 34 years after the original. How does that work? It is set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles of 2018 during the early days of the human resistance, eleven years before Kyle Reese is sent back in time to protect Sarah Conner from the first Terminator."
# Christian Bale was McG's first choice to play John Conner, whom he calls "the most credible action star in the world right now." McG offered Bale the part while he was shooting "The Dark Knight," and he initially turned it down. Bale told McG that if he could refine the script to the point where it could be read on stage without any special effects and still be a compelling story, he would agree to star in it. # To that end, McG brought Jonathan Nolan on board to rewrite the script. Nolan is the brother of director Christopher Nolan, and they collaborated on the screenplays for "The Prestige" and "The Dark Knight." Anthony E. Zuiker, the creator of TV's "CSI" franchise, also worked on the script. With the script in place, Bale signed on to play Conner, with the option to do two more "Terminator" movies if this one is successful. -Zyck |

Edited by: Destination SkillQueue on 03/03/2009 20:48:49 The new trailer is better then the old one because of one important reason: "forget the past". It tells openly, that this is a reboot of the franchise in a new world(as in future has changed again) and not a direct continuation of the old one. Those transformers skynet now has, would have been impossible to fit together with the old terminator movies and what they said about the future.
That said I hope they actually have a good story to tell and don't just try to glue some memorable scenes from the past movies and tie them together with a weak plot. From the scenes shown it has already abandoned the atmosphere of the original terminator movies, so I hope they have replaced it with something worth watching.

tbh, that guy probably deserved it, how would you feel if someone in the backgroudn was distracting you while you were trying to impersanaite another person(called actin otherwise)..
Then again, bale does seem liek a tard anyhow.

Not a small mistake and it wasn't the first take the guy had been ****ing with the lighting after the call for "ACTION!" The guy had already been asked nicely to stop. Plus, it was the most emotionally involving scene of the damn movie! Bale had already worked himself into an emotional state to play the scene properly. Lastly, the clip was released to the public months after it had gone down and the whole thing had been reconciled. Someone was trying to hurt Bale by showing the thing out of context and after everyone had made up. Don't be so easily manipulated as to go right along with it. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

You may want to stop watching movies all together then. Hate to tell you but producers and directors do that on a daily basis in that profession.

I'm sure the movie industry would be devastated by your refusal to see a good movie because the star of the movie went ballistic once over some crew member's mistake at a critical point in the shoot.

Though the bale rampage was funny, i think had the lighting guy decked bale for shouting at him it would have been funnier

****, that guy deserved to be yelled at.
you are the star in making a film that will either lose a TON of money or make a TON of money and possibly spawn sequel (==more money). Someone is screwing with your ability to perform your best, what do you do? You can either let them know nicely, or flip the hell out.... either one is justified.
Its Christian Bale ffs. The man is dedicated to say the least about his movies (dropped his weight to 120lbs to make the Machinist then shot back up to 215lbs of muscle for batman).... not to mention he's a hell of an actor. My point? If he is telling you you are ****ing **** up on a movie set, you're probably ****ing **** up
I'd say if a few stagehands' feelings get hurt in the process, it's worth it to see this guy keep cranking out awesome movies/performances after awesome movies/performances ---------- "This is Chopper Dave's made for TV movie, Blades Of Vengeance. See, he's a chopper pilot by day, but by night he fights crime as a werewolf... YEAH!" |

When somebody who's supposedly a professional makes a worse-than-rookie mistake that destroys the work of the entire crew (probably more than once), and you're angry like hell with his apparent incompetence, would you calmly take him to the side and tell him he screwed up or just pop a seal and scream like hell ? Yeah, sure, you'd LIKE to think you'd be a better guy, but then again, wait until you are put into that position first, THEN come here and tell us how you handled it.

I probably will watch this, being a fan of the franchise. But there is one thing that worries me: the fact that this is being directed by McG. This is the guy who made the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle film, which has to be one of the most idiotic films ever made, designed for people who cannot hold their attention for more than a nanosecond. His films make Michael Bay's look intellectual.
I mourn for the fact that someone who can't even be bothered to spell his surname can be given such a lot of money and a classic franchise.
In regards to Bale's rant: yes, it might have been an emotionally harrowing scene he had to film, but there was no need for him to rant on as long as he did. Certainly, if I had been the lighting guy, I would have punched his lights out (or at least tried to). The fact that no-one else said anything suggests they were totally submissive to him. Someone should have told him to shut the hell up, or given him a slap (this is traditionally what the director is supposed to do). Unforunately, they do treat the star with kid gloves on film sets, which does tend to lead to tantrums.
It may happen on many, many films, but it still doesn't make it acceptable, or pleasant to witness.
Still, he did apologise after to the guy (or so he claims, but then anyone would knowing their tantrum got released to the world). I think Christian Bale is a fine actor, but this incident won't have done his career any good. It'll survive, but people only tolerate lunatic behaviour for so long. Look at what has happened with Tom Cruise.
I just hope this isn't indicative of his character.
Signing off, McR

Is it some sort of remix of it? Trying to find it on you tube, seem to only get the slow versions.

And this is why we'll never see your name in the credits. Well maybe we will with a low grade home video production that required 3 friends to make but never anything multi-million dollar wise. You should watch the extra's stuff on your dvd's some time and see how sometimes you only get one chance for a shot and if a lighting guy or who ever screws it up then you lost that shot.

Who saw the Family Guy take on the rant. It was great.
All that aside. Looks pretty awesome. Not as awesome as Fumbles (thanks for the link), but pretty good, and with slightly better effects.
PS - anybody know what Robot Chicken pays for those toys? That collection has to be worth a fortune, at least before they adulterated them to be used in the claymation process. Hell, that could have made them worth more.

Quote: One fact that is still unknown about "Terminator Salvation" is what rating it will receive from the MPAA. The three previous "Terminator" movies were all rated R, but the producers are pushing McG to bring this one in at a PG-13. As with the fourth "Die Hard," the studio is hoping a more kid-friendly rating will bring in bigger crowds (and sell more action figures and video games). At a panel at WonderCon on Sunday, McG asked the crowd if they would prefer an R-rated movie, to much applause. But it stands to reason that if the theatrical release is rated PG-13, an "unrated" DVD edition is sure to follow.
The fail is already there.
