It seems that it is possible, not sure how, but what would I have to do to get either 65km Torps or as the Mobs like to do 111km Torps?

First off, NPC's don't operate under the same rules as we do (torps fire much further, ECM is purely chance based, etc.). That said, you aren't going to hit 110km with torps.
You can however hit 65-70 km with javelins if you use range rigs (hydraulic bay thrusters and rocket fuel cache partitions). Javelins are why a lot of people will (correctly) say that you should never use torps on a mission until you can use T2 torps.

You'd have to use T2 rigs (one of each thrusters and rocket fuel) AND have perfect missile range skills (velocity, flight time) to get out to 65km, and that's EFT range. In reality, your torps will be effective out to about 55-58km even with all that. It should be good enough for L4 rats, but you have to ask yourself if you're not better off getting a Golem instead. I'm not sure if I'd use T2 rigs on a Raven personally.

Yeah T2 Rigs currently out of my prise range, and it's going to be a while before I have the skills to use them, still working on getting all my Defense certificates to Elite, gonna be near mid-june before that happens, most if not all are currently at IV just want to get the certificates. and i still need to get my cruise missile skills up to level 5, which is probably what I should be working on. We shall see how that goes. I just wish i had the ship and skill to get regular torps out to 111Km would be sweet, wonder what their Cruise Missiles would reach to?

any skill that increases either your flight time (bombardment) or missile velocity (projection).

Also your ship skill if it gets a bonus to missile flight time or velocity. For example the raven gets 10% missile velocity per level of Caldari battleship skill.
You can also get implants with up to +5% missile velocity or flight time.

Generally, for missions, you don't want to bother with torps until you can fly a Golem. The Golem has an easier time fitting t2 torps + a tank and has a nice bonus to exp. velocity and painters. You will never get the range on torps that NPC's have or cruise missiles have, but you don't really need it most of the time. You will be able to reach out decently far with javelins, and you'll melt things absurdly fast at closer ranges.

Do you guys change your torpedos from javelins to something else if the npcs are closer? If so what do you recomend? Rage torpedos?

With a golem this might not be such a huge issue. A target painter or two and that hefty bonus it gets makes for a pretty good match. You get down to a effective explosion radius of 222, with rage torps. Granted the velocity is still 114 you can still score som pretty good hits. Parrots, commence!

Edited by: Gul Rashen on 06/03/2009 15:20:32 Even if you fit the Raven with 1 TP and 1 Flare you will make less damage (using Torps) on most Targets than with CMs. The Raven lacks good Torp-Boni. Take CMs or a Golem instead.
Here are some Numbers from a CNR with CMs/Torps with 1 TP. CM-Version with 2 Rigor, 1 Flare and the Torpversion with 2 Range+1 Flare.
Cruiser(SIG:155, Orbit: 180m/s) CNR(CN Cruise Missiles) DPS-717 Volley-4594 Torp-CNR w. CN Torpedos(Javelins) DPS-450,7(338,1)
Battlecruiser(SIG:240, Orbit: 200m/s) CNR(CN Cruise Missiles) DPS-717 Torp-CNR w. CN Torpedos(Javelins) DPS-625,4(475,5)
Battleship(SIG:400, Orbit: 175m/s) CNR(Fury Cruise Missiles) DPS-798 Torp-CNR w. CN Torpedos(Javelins) DPS-1181,8(921,5)
With 3 Rangerigs the Torp-Ship will do ~20% less DPS than above posted.
