How will these be distributed around 0.0 and what kind of increased supply can we expect for boosters after the change? Will there be variations in supply across different low-sec regions?
Will these sites be profitable in comparison to other low-sec production(considering the extra effort required)? Will it be enough to search for these specifically or are they just extras?
I.E. what does "a little" mean?

More boosters in more places is good. I see the strategy for making LowSec more interesting is developing nicely.

CCP Dropbear, While the increase in booster supply is much appreciated, are you guys looking at the mechanic behind boosters in general?
Personally, I'm not a fan of the current chance-based booster side effect mechanic, I'd prefer to make a tactical decision rather than just gamble on either getting no side effect or one that doesn't impact me negatively too much. Have you guys considered altering the way boosters function regarding that aspect? I'd be more interested in seeing: 1. A "hangover" effect instead of a possible side effect - the booster wears off after X amount of time but for 2*X or 3*X that time (logged in if you want to make things really interesting) the booster has one of the current side effects applied. 2. An actual addiction mechanic, whereby the side effects/hangovers are reduced by consuming boosters regularly but if you stop consuming them at a certain interval you start suffering withdrawal symptoms. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

I first learned that there was something called boosters after 3 months into the game. I started looking frenetically on the forums to get my "fix" but there was very little information on the subject and finally i got it as:
"Boosters is something people with several billion isk use to get the upper hand in an epic battle"
I sure hope that this chance and the direction we are heading i would be able to afford the use of a booster at least once. I know real world examples are bad but... All i have to do is walk 200 - 300 yards in any direction to get a hold of some drug or another for a reasonable price. If i can do the same in eve then boosters are going to rock. If however, I would have to travel 30 jumps, most in low-sec and 0.0 just to afford one or two then i guess i will never get to see that aspect of the game. no matter how hard i try.
My opinions belong to me, you can't have them!

You're evil. I like it.
What I would like to see:
1. Synth production allowed in high sec. I know, everyone groans--but synths could easily be a gateway to boosters, and the more people who are familiar with the mechanic of taking a synth before a battle, the more people who willing to hunt for something better.
2. Improve and rebalance boosters. Make them all better, listen to Evil Tarminic's advice, and attempt to improve the lesser used ones.
3. Make smuggling boosters into empire give more penalties and be harder, but provide techniques to avoid detection. For example, if your standings are good enough, paying off officials. Smuggling should be exciting.
Boosters and synths should be a bigger part of EVE, with booster suppliers able to get filthy rich, but always living on a knife's edge.

this needs to go away.
doing that means that booster need to become more avalible. the problem is if you mean for it to be a low or 0.0 sec only item you need a bridge item (something legal in lowsec or empire) so that its not seen as yet another barrier to low-0.0

320 (make sites every day)
An even simpler way of expressing all the work we've done to improve exploration is the number 320.
* 8 New Hacking sites (4 Hisec, 4 Lowsec) across the five pirate factions makes 40 sites. * 8 New Archaeology sites (4 Hisec, 4 Lowsec) across the five pirate factions takes that to 80 sites. * 24 New Salvaging sites (split across all security status) across five pirate factions makes a total of 200 sites. These are a completely new type of exploration site. * 12 New Anomaly sites (have a chance of a faction spawn) across five pirate factions adds another 60 sites for 260 total. * 24 New Booster Sites (split across all security status)...284 * 36 New Wormhole sites (hacking, archaeology, encounter). Some of these behave as multiple sites, effectively turning 1 site into 2.
...and tada! 320.
To put the things a bit into perspective, how many sites we've got so far of each kind ? -- Pain is weakness leaving the body. |

Some questions about those tactical enviroments.
1.)is there a chance that they or at least some of them will be included into k-space somewhere in the future provided the mechanics work out?
2.)is there a possibility that they will be changed somewhere into the future to include some more “real space physics”? I think of something while accelerating towards a black hole you get a speed bonus and while accelerating away from it a speed penalty?
3.)I’ve no idea what tactical environments will be present but will there be more in the future? I can think of hundreds of anomalies which I don’t think you’ve included them all. (pockets of high neutron radiation, micro meteoroids, nebulas consisting of different gases and stuff like that)
4.)Is there a possibility of more local effects? Let’s say while in close proximity to a gas giant you experience effects because of the high gravity. Another possibility could be solar flares near the sun or malfunctioning ship systems due heavy electromagnetic fields of large planets, provided they have one)
Well I know I’m crazy and I realize the answer on all these questions will definitely be “not with Aprocrypha” but I think more in terms of 1 to 3 years.

that's called a wishful thinking.
A non stacking nerfed 10% bonus to a category that one has already maxed out through the use of skills, implants, ship bonuses, gang bonuses etc is non-trivial, especially when an entire fleet is using them --sorry you don't seem to realize this!
The cost / bonus relation is not worth it. Not to mention that bonuses offered are crap for some professions (like missionrunning). If they are suitable for you - well more power to you. On day to day operations and for most sitations it is not so.
Only guys who use boosters on more or less regular basis I know of are dreadnought pilots.

You forgot to mention what will happen with COSMOS constelation for exploration.
I hope you guys find a way to let other people explorer this wonderfull new and OLD content outside COSMOS constalations!!
Most of the good stuff in low sec lie in these areas and this isn't fair, because there are huge corps in the area and they don't give space for others to access these sites (a valid strategic but restrict the content anyway).
Wanna booster?? Go to COSMOS to look for good stuff :P

Actually I think the chance based effects are absolutely genious and make the boosters perfectly balanced.
"Hangovers" are bad. That will just lead to idling around/afk until the hangover-effect is over.
The chance of having 100% pwnage from the boosters or just a horror-trip is what boosters makes special and should not be removed or nerfed down. That exactly is what boosters should be!

I now understand why the Epic Mission Arcs were drasticly reduced in size, and fair play, it is about time mini-professions, especially booster production got some love.
I do agree with a post above though, shouting a number at us 420, without putting it into context compared to how many existing sites there were already is a bit naff.
Is that 420 the total number of sites now or what?
Would also be nice if you let us know if the low sec clouds were "constellation based" like with 0.0 clouds, so all the pirates could gather in a feeding frenzy. Or are the clouds spawning randomly to be found all over low sec?

cool stuff
btw, much of this wont only be limited to cosmos constallations will it?
and i dont get what people have a problem with the side effects of the boosters for... just assume that you'll get all negative hits all the time and you cant go wrong (its what i do), no side effects means they would be horribly overpowered, and if lowered in effect to compensate, rather useless (like synth ones are atm). -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze M crystals for Amarr!

Many words...
Originally by: Zupkuck This is very cool. Any plans to fix/revamp smuggling?
See first paragraph below.
Originally by: Aya Vandenovich Are there any plans to change the boosters themselves?
I imagine we'll be watching how these changes affect the booster industry first before looking into any other modifications. Any future changes should be made based on the most recent information, which means we first spend some time measuring the effects of the Apocrypha release. With so many things potentially affecting the industry (new cloud sites, new sources of bpcs/reactions, exploration revamp, wormholes requiring explorers) it's prudent to see where it goes from here first.
As an aside though, this does actually change the boosters themselves. It will likely make them cheaper in the long run. In a game like EVE, the cost of an item is as much an attribute to consider as the abilities it grants. Changing the price of something can affect it as much as changing what it actually offers the player. Good examples of this are Tech II (through invention) and rigs. The roles of these items changed as their cost went down. Remember 300m Cerberus that you were crazy to bring to the field of PvP? Essentially, that's what we're aiming to change here, their role. Lower price means greater accessibility, opening boosters up for wider applications in combat.
Originally by: Zhang Ramses This is all welcome news, but I was hoping to see a remark about giving a ship a bonus to gas harvesting. I thought the T3 fullerenes alone would have warranted that, and now with the added content push for boosters...the game really needs a ship with a gas harvester bonus.
Something like this is a little outside the purview of our own department (Atlanta Content). We are developers for the most part, not designers. That means we generally make stuff according to other people's designs, not make our own. It's not always a clear cut line, but for something like a new ship or redesigning booster functionality, we look to our BattleTestedÖ Designers.
Not to brush your comment off or pass the buck though. I do think the mechanics of acquiring Fullerites and Cyto/Myko is something that could be worth looking into. For now though, the wise approach will continue to be bringing multiple miners if you want to clear a site quickly.
Originally by: Verys It's good that this is boosted but don't make the special "story" stuff drop too much
Don't worry about that. We've made collecting the story items a not-insignificant accomplishment. Entity is going to have a hell of a time.
Also, I should add that these unique NPCs...hunting them down is no easy task. They move around like you do. One day they may be dealing with production in 0.0, and the next they can be found distributing out in lowsec. They won't just sit in their sites waiting for you to come and take them out. If you want what they have, you better be ready to make a concerted effort to hunt them down.

Many more words...
Originally by: Patripassion ànew npcs that don't drop anything special
They drop boosters BPCs and reaction blueprints. Ask anyone producing boosters what some of the main things holding them back are. One of them is what these guys drop; booster BPCs. When acquiring blueprints is a time-consuming process, the cost goes up. When the cost goes up, the roles shift towards higher-end use (think Capitals and specialized Garmon-style Exile Hyperions). We've changed it so that it is a little easier (and only a little, see the above reply to Verys) to acquire these important pieces in the booster production pipeline.
It's not a hugely, insanely "special" thing, like wormholes or Tech III, sure. It's a subtle yet much needed change to the booster industry and it was just one part of a relatively small-scale project. For our first "sprint" we didn't have the tools to make Epic Arcs, or wormhole art assets or many other things we would need to build the other content we would make later down the line. So, for that first fortnight we focused on exploration (minus the wormhole sites I mentioned in the blog). The changes to boosters were just one part of that. I like to think we made some good progress for just that amount of time. Around 300 sites and 8,000 words of storyline text. (I like words)
Originally by: Patripassion àless exclusivity for the 0.0 resource sites.
I personally think that 0.0 has remained roughly the same in terms of exclusivity. It gains a greater supply of much-needed BPCs (which it still offers exclusively) and still remains the best supply of Cyto as well. Trying to build a drug empire out of lowsec alone will not be an easy task. Of course, if nullsec entities are not capitalizing on the resources in their own backyard, then they risk leaving themselves open to lowsec producers moving in on the market - if they can. They'd still need to acquire Strong booster BPCs from 0.0 or the market though, and overcome other obstacles too, so fighting against established nullsec organizations who are on the ball will still remain a significant challenge. But the prospect for region-based resource battles is there. Nullsec entities have an advantage, but they will have to use it or lose it. That's how it should be.
Originally by: Kirsten Fud My understanding is that previously Gas Clouds were limited to specific Constellations in specific regions. Will these 'new' sites in 0.0 be found anywhere in 0.0, or are they still restricted to single constellations?
A good question, and something I forgot to make more clear in the blog.
All new sites, including booster sites, have been distributed across the whole region that houses the constellation already seeded with sites. This makes the pre-existing constellations more populated, but also makes the region itself part of the area to look now.
Originally by: Typhado3 so you've replaced searching for booster bpc sites and hacking with warp in and shoot stuff..... I would have rather seen hacking/gas harvesting/salvaging or one of those expanded slightly more than just giving them t2 modules.
Booster BPCs are still found through Hacking, and those with developed Hacking abilities will continue to benefit when it comes to acquiring booster resources. These drug crews store their stuff in more places than just their cargo bay. Nothing has been replaced, only supplemented. Hacking, gas harvesting and salvaging all got plenty of love too.
