Contact the game's producers and they'll send you a new disc for a nominal fee. It is not illegal in most civilized countries to download a copy in the same way it's not illegal to smoke pot; it's actually being in possession that's the crime.
Get a new disc from the game's producers and make a backup of it so you never get stung again. ---

Need to be careful, I don't think they'd hunt you too hard if you just download it and you already own it - the issue is that with torrents (unless you disable it) you are uploading the game to people who you can be 99% sure of don't have the original game, therefor breaking the law. __________________

Yes. Yes you are.
Personally, I have pirated almost all the software I have. I actually tallied up a (very) rough tally of the value of all the software OSes and music I have pirated, and it was well over $5000 US. That was about 5 years ago. I'd imagine it's well over $10000 US by now. Had I not been able to pirate it I probably would have bought 0$ of it and would have used Free Open Source alternatives instead, or simply skipped it. (Yeah, I didn't want to play Half Life so bad I was willing to actually PAY MONEY to play it. But if I could get it for free, why not?)
I suppose that makes me a horrible pirate, but frankly I don't really care. I want it, I can get it for free, so I will. Yarr.

Right after he came out of the closet and swapped out his somber black top hat and coat for flamboyant purple attire with striped pants. He's now a butt-pirate. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

if you download only it is ok as fair use permits backups of even software. the problem with a torrent is you also upload which sticks you into the distribution angle which is always illegal.

get a new game, alot of the new games dont even require the CD/DVD anymore, an example i have is Mass Effect, could not for the life of me get the EA download manger to work, on XP/vista 32/64. so i just went to a well known torrent site and promptly downloaded a copy of the game. seeing as if i used the EA site i still wouldnt have gotten a box, i dont see how this could be an issue. also, look to see if it might be available on somewhere like Steam. if you can register it on there you might be able to download it. the EULA states that they own your soul sooooo...
but in all seriousness I don't think it'll be a problem. Especially since you're using your own CD Key. The powers that be have bigger fish to fry ---------------------------------------

Edited by: Vak''ran on 11/03/2009 17:16:31 On the subject of pirating...
A while ago I bought a DVD movie. On it, inbetween the movie related bits are 2 instances of minute-long interruptible promotional videos going "pirating is stealing", in a very blaming tone.
I find the insult in this so profound (remember I bought the damn movie), that I have since decided I will no longer be arsed to pay a single euro for passing entertainment. Only cinemas, concerts, and quality product will be paid for in the future, the rest of the 'rights' will have to be paid from what I pay for the cable subscription on the TV I never watch...
Good behaviour just has to come from both sides. As long as insult and sub-par quality are to be expected, I reserve the right to decide on the worth of a product myself. -----
