WTF an I supposed to do in apocrypha with my thousands of probes and researched probe bluprints after Apocrypha? As it stands now nobody ever needs more then 8 probes and only loses them with the ship, and that is not very often in case of a covops. Save the probe market, and make those probes remember how much time they had left on them after recalling, when it's 0 probe is gone. _____________ I don't care what is nerfed, as long as it's not my "undock" button. |

Right.
And i suppose all those people making T1 amarr crystals are any worse off? They seem to be doing just fine. But i guess you really never can tell.

there will be a shift in logic. people will just start to throw away there probes. no need to hit the collect button.

T1 amarr crystals get turned into faction crystals which do burn up eventually. We going to get faction probes to create same effect on regular probes?

T1 crystal market survived for almost 4(?) years before they introduced the whole "Swap for Faction" business. And it wasnt even in trouble when that happened.

People will get lazy and not collect their probes. They'll get kicked and the probes will expire before they get back on. They'll get ganked and lose the ship and probes.... I could go on.
Also look at the drone market. Those sell in the hundreds a day in regional markets. Granted, a lot get lost to PvE fighting as well as PvP. How many people will be moving their exploration probes to something other than a covert ops now? That will only increase the odds of probe loss, especially the combat probes.
For an answer about faction probes: It's in one of the dev posts on changes to scanning systems and equipment. Hint: Where do you get the rest of the faction exploration stuff?
For the devs: I would like to see a buyback for blueprints set up. Would it be possible even for researched bps?

I definately think there needs to be an NPC buyback setup. And it should take ME/PE into account when quoting a price. Otherwise, people will have a LOT of researched BPO sitting around lining their bird cages.
As for the probes themselves... Sure, people will have an rediculous supply of the same Core Probe. And maybe people will forget or neglect to recall their probes. And one day, far from now, the market will recover and people will start making a profit by manufacturing them again.
But I can almost guarantee that day won't be any time soon.
Consider having a stock of 100 of every probe you use. Sizes and signatures. 400 Grav, 400 Magneto, 400 Ladar, 400 Radar, 100 Multi = 1700 Core Probes. And if you're smart, you'll never need more than 8? So every explorer out there is going to be trying to get rid of 1692 probes.
At the same time, they've sunk a lot of time and ISK into researching BPO for each of those. So that's 16 of the same BPO for sale, keeping 1 themselves for the "fabled" day when the market will start running out of Probes. --- Life altering changes, to combat the acts of a extreme minority... means you're letting the terrorists win. Technology changes, and markets change. It happens IRL, and annoying sometimes as it is, it happens in EVE as well. That is why it is best to diversify your products.
One thing to possibly help. Going by the current SiSi mineral values of the new probes, they're going to be cheaper to build than the older probes. If you have a lot of probes, you might want to consider refining them down to their mineral constitutes, and when the expansion hits in a few more days, re-manufacture them.

Well, I have 200/200 bpo too. But what really hurts is my set of virtue implants now worth nothing ;) Well, but than I hope that some day they take the t2 bpo out of buisness, and than people would suffer a lot more than me ;)

I -do- think the mineral costs to build a probe should be increased, to compensate for the fact that they're reusable.

I think a deployed and functional probe does that little *glowy glowy* thing around the middle.
And that glow could easily be coming from some sort of (insert trekno-babble) crystal.
So... give Probes a damage (maybe not call it damage) measurement just like crystals. You can keep all your extras in a Can in the hold, and leave the 6 probes you regularly use lying directly in the hold.
And when they are used enough, they break, and you replace them.
