Edited by: Roy Boaz on 08/03/2009 16:41:27 That is when there is only one rat left, then they have no choice but to obey you, poor bastards. Even when instructed to attack one target while focused, they do not comply all the time. Such crappy programing after so much time the problem as been known cannot exist : this has to be sabotage!
Yes! You can have my stuff! Brand new Dominix to the first person who tells me the origin of the word "sabotage".
EDIT : Constantine wins the dominix!

Sabotage is a term of French origin coined during the railway strike of 1910, when workers destroyed the wooden shoes, or sabots, that held rails in place, thus impeding the morning commute.

Edited by: Claire Voyant on 08/03/2009 16:58:12 And I always thought it was because dutch workers threw their wooden shoes into the factory machines to halt production.
BTW, I think my etymology is equally valid and I deserve a Dominix too.

Don't really seem to have the problem, and i've logged more then a fair share of hours in a Dominix letting drones clear out level 4 missions. Maybe you're doing something wrong? :)

Hve you tried changing the settings in your drone window and actually ticking the focus fire option?

Been happening to me for the past 2 months or so. Drones will not focus fire. Even worse they will change targets after I have commanded them to attack something. Really have to keep an eye on them these days. Still haven't come up with a reasonable casue for it yet.

Been happening to me since the focus fire option was implemented. I've had it checked since then, but drones frequently run off and do whatever the hell they want. It seems to be fine if everything is within shooting range when you give the drones the order to engage (everything is blinky red) but if some targets haven't started firing yet then one or two drones may break off and go attack them while the rest pick a different target that was already shooting before that.
Also, giving the order to engage and having a ship start firing between the time you give the order and the drones actually start attacking, some might break off and go attack it instead.
I seriously hate the drone AI.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Fix:
Map something easy like "f" to Drone: Engage.
Fixed =)

Yes, sometimes that is absolutely necessary. But they seem to automatically focus fire in passive mode anyway, even if the option isn't checked.

If you know how to do that, do share. My client requires at least one of Ctrl, Alt or Shift to be mapped as well.

The "Focus fire" always worked great for me.
There are a few in my alliance that say it doesn't always work for them, however. They say that drones sometimes split up.

It rarely works for me.
My drones can't make up their mind about anything. Something as simple as focusing fire is hard for them. I'm pretty sure they are as ADD as the programmer who wrote them.

I don't think drones should be automated period. Call me a purist but they are just weapons like any thing else (guns, missiles etc).
You don't see missiles autotargeting do you? I laugh when people complain about their drones not attacking even in aggressive mode when they are afk mission running.
It's really not that hard to manually control them like any other weapon system in this game.

A French rail strike, how unusual.
