Edited by: SupaKudoRio on 09/03/2009 01:29:21 Add/change a few drone settings.
Preferred Target Size -Drones (prefer other drones) -Frigate (includes ALL frigate hull ships) -Cruiser (all cruiser/BC hulls) -Battleship (BS hulls and turrets/structures) -Auto (default, drones pick a target relevant to their own size according to sig radius and velocity)
Assist Owner -Yes (default, drones bias themselves to attacking the same target as their owner - makes logistics drones assist owner if idle, after a several second 'recalibration' delay to balance it) -No (drones target independently)
Grouped Drones -Yes (default, one drone is assigned the 'leader' and processes all AI for the other 'slave' drones) -No (drones process AI independently)
Behaviour -Aggressive (pick a hostile target and attack, regardless whether that target is firing or not) -Defensive (default, attack when fired upon only) -Interception (attack other drones and ships that are using ewar/web/scram/neut/nos on the owner only) -Passive (stay idle unless given an order by the owner)
Auto Target Acquire Behaviour -Normal (drones switch targets as normal) -Smart (default, drones switch target if their current one's total HP hasn't gone down over ten or so volleys) -Guided (drones bias what they attack to whatever the owner has targeted)
Interception Priority (what gets highest priority for Interception behaviour) -Warp Disrupted (default) -Webified -EWar -Capacitor Drain (with neut being higher priority than nos)
Logistical Behaviour (how logistics drones behave) -Fleet (give assistance automatically to the closest damaged fleet member until they are back to 100%, then switch to another) -Friend (default, same as assist fleet, except the drones include people with standing above 5 and any corp/alliance members) -All (drones attempt to assist everyone, except hostiles/criminals/people with less than 0 standing) -Passive (drones remain idle)
Check Aggression Flag? -Yes (default, logistics drones do not assist flagged players/people who are at war) -No
MWD Range (sets the distance at which drones will start using their MWD) -Always (default, drones use their MWD all the time they're out of range of their target) -5km -10km -Never (drones don't use their MWD at all)
Between those settings, drones could be set up to perform specific actions.
Is this a decent suggestion?

Not sure if all of the above will work out... but it is much needed.

I agree this is a much needed feature, especially for those of use who use drones as primary defensive weapons (re. Mining Barge Pilots).
I would at least like to see it looked at.

This would give drone users a bit more control over their primary weapon system. A good thing.
Any improvement to drone AI/UI would be a good thing. -----------------------------------------------

More love for drones is desperately needed. These changes seem sound and hopefully some will get implemented. Drones certainly need it. A few comments:
Grouped drones, why is this needed? I guess I don't understand what you mean by this.
Auto-target behavior seems a little too afk-control to me and not needed. But that is my opinion. (Yes, current drone controls are kinda "afk-control")
Check Agression Flag = needed. Great idea!
Otherwise, support is given for this idea.

Edited by: SupaKudoRio on 09/03/2009 06:00:23 I gave some thought to that grouping option.
Using that would be more effective than focus fire, and reduce load on the server too.
Drones, as they are, are AFK weapons anyway though.

Not sure if I like the details of this proposal or not, but I'm all for better, more complex, drone AI. It's gotten far better since I've started playing, but there's some room to improve yet.

While the idea certainly has merit I'm not sure that you'd want to automate too many things in EVE, that would be the same as setting your guns to automatically target and attack the ones that are tackling you.
That and ofcourse you expecting these new drones routines to actually, you know... work. Just as they have been able to make drones work properly over the past years with the little amount of variables they currently have.
The only real setting I'd be interested in is "attack target closest to ship/attack target closest to drone". That in itself is not overpowered but takes care of most of the issues without taking away the requirement to actually think about what you're doing. It could/should also be something CCP devs could actually make work.
So, not supported, sorry.

A bit of over complex but needed.
I might add, allowing adjustment to drone orbit distance out to max controlable distance. it might come in handy to catch a cloaked ship. If drones proximity can de-cloak a ship as well.

signed on ONE condision. drones wouldn't be able to attack anything that you haven't targeted.
the whole idea with drones being able to hit any size ship and auto attack without you being able to target is just so out of bound and should be balanced first.
besides that, awesome idea ___________________________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded |
