I've noticed that a lot of the time in a big fleet, people get killed and lag makes it so that their pod just sits there while the session changes and they spam the warp-to button. This makes it easy for enemies to podkill them.
Why not have a warp-to command instead of having to right-click and hit the "warp to 0" or the "warp to...." button?
We have a targeting function (ctrl + left mouse). Why can't we have a warp function?(Ctrl-w + left mouse or w + left mouse)
I think that this would be a very helpful tool to have in the game. No, it would not reduce PVP in any way. By the time you REALLY need to use this, you are already out of your combat ship and in your pod.
What say you?

Never really had a problem. If I know I am going down I just change over to my RUN!!! tab and start spamming a random moon and I never have an issue, unless there is a bubble of course.

Not a terrible idea...but I seriously wonder if that's needed. However, it seems to be a thought out idea. Its one of a few command keys we could use.
So support.

Since this can be achieved with an overview tab might as well just implement it.

I guess you guys havn't realized what the rest of the lame eve world that can't pilot a ship has allready. The hot key you speak of is CTRL Q. I don't see why we need a button to remove thinking from the game. A proper overview setup goes a long way.

I have a "proper" overview setup and I lose my pod whenever I fight. I run EVE on a decent machine, I do NOT double-box, do not run anything else, etc. Whatever it is about the session change, it takes long enough that someone can lock and pod you. Moving the mouse over to whatever I am warping to, while right-clicking and hitting warp-to repeatedly just sucks. It's that extra five-ten seconds before I die that could be used in an attempt to overheat my repper, guns, or AB/MWD in an attempt to escape certain death. By the time your target needs to use this, you've already won, so I really don't see why you are arguing against it.

I like it. Useful in an emergency.
Someone could make the argument that anything that makes podkilling harder is bad for game balance, but I wouldn't personally agree with that argument.

A new command key wouldn't make you warp faster though, would it? I don't see how, the same packet would be sent to the server at the same time.
And your issue with always getting podded because of session changes is a user issue, not a game issue. Most experienced pvpers never get podded unless caught in a bubble.

True, but more hotkeys are always a good thing. Far too many worthless hotkey options when we could really use a system where you can map almost any action to any key. That would be awesome.

How exactly is the requested feature different from this existing feature.
Or is it that you want bookmarks to be added to the overview so that you can warp to/align to them from there?

As I understand it, the proposal is a keyboard shortcut with the same functionality as the button on screen. The buttons already exist on the screen, but it's more convenient to use the keyboard, just the way you can activate modules using the cursor on screen, but it's more convenient, especially when there's a lot of action going on, to use the function keys.
If there's suddenly so much going on on screen that your monitor is having trouble keeping up with your cursor, and therefore it's hard to get it to the button (or navigate contextual menus if you're trying to warp to something that's not in your overview) - which is a very realistic possibility when something happens very suddenly that requires you to warp away - a keyboard shortcut is a more efficient and more reliable way of getting the command entered sooner rather than later.
I remember from my n00b days wishing that I knew of such a keyboard command. In an emergency, it's reassuring to know that I can hit a particular keystroke and if it's possible to warp out, I will.

Except that the OP's proposal required using the mouse as well. If you're using the mouse, just select it and spam WTZ. A keyboard-only shortcut would be a worthy addition, but if it needs the mouse, it's inferior to existing functionality. ----- Bloodmoney Incorporated is recruiting! |

This is true, but your keyboard has no way of knowing what you are trying to warp to. I usually keep the 'selected item' thing closed out because it is in the same window as my overview..very annoying when you're trying to ninja >.<

You do know that you can move both the selected item and overview around to anywhere you want them?? There 2 different windows that can be moved separate of each other.
Your proposed function to me seams to already be in game and in a more efficient way.

Only needing the mouse to select one thing, and then spamming the keystroke, is better than needing the mouse to select one thing and then go to the warp-to button above the overview. The fact that you have to click on your target doesn't make the function keys worthless as a means to activate modules. But I see your point.
Perhaps this could be paired with an ability to designate a default location in a particular system that you would warp to with this command? I'm fine with that idea, but I expect push-back from pirates who think that would make it too easy for a victim to escape. --------------------------------- Thomas Hardy is going to eat your brains. |

Its totaly unecessary so I wasn't going to support this but that bolded section is the most tragic thing I have ever heard so thumbs up on this one. Its not like it would hurt having more bindable controls.

Never had an issue getting a pod out, unless there is a bubble or massive lag.
If there is lag, having new shortcuts won't help.

In my case, the issue isn't so much lag as graphics settings. When I'm (for example) involved in a small-scale mining op in low-sec, I don't have my graphics settings down at their minimums, because sitting in a belt or site, mining, my not-top-notch graphics card can handle what's on its plate pretty well, and I can appreciate the lovely graphics the game has. If suddenly a dozen pirates warp onto us and I need to warp out ASAP, my frame rate falls through the floor and I can't get navigate through the overview and/or contextual menus fast enough.
If you think I should keep my graphics settings lower, well, you have a point there. But I don't see how making warp-to-zero (for whatever object is currently selected) a keystroke is any more controversial than keystrokes for activating modules.
