Ok, I have a laptop that WAS running the classic client. It is a Lenovo T60 with an ATI x1300 video card in it. According to the info given out it should run just fine on the Premium Lite client.
As per CCP instructions I upgraded to the Premium client BEFORE patch day so as to make the patch download smaller. I ended up downloading the patch linked in this thread. It installed without problems. When I attempted to RUN eve I was told by the client that my machine did not support it and the client closed. I never got to the login page. Just the splash screen and the error and closed. So unless there is a text file somewhere that I can edit to force Premium Lite I'm well and truly boned for playing eve on my laptop.
Umm... Hello? Is there something I need to do to select Premium Lite or is this a bug? ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

Trying to run the manual patch "83913 -> 84244" and getting:
"There was an error initializing the download. Error 2"
Anyone have any clue what that means? ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

Never mind, I figured it out. It's because that's my WINE based install, which (of course) has no BITS support. Nice.
I love how the MAIN installer checks for BITS support but the PATCH does not. Thanks guys. Once again, kick the Linux users in the butt.

How do you fix that? I don't think my BITs is working either way.
Download the full client via Chribba's bittorrent link, and run the full install. Unless someone has the full patch available. (NOT the 16 meg auto downloader!) ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

yes these are on CCP's server
Quoting this.
The problem with those links?
Those are executable AUTO-DOWNLOADERS. NOT the actual patches!
if you don't have BITS support (Wine users, XP users that haven't loaded BITS support) those patchers WILL NOT WORK and will error out with "Error 2".
Does anyone have a link to the FULL PATCHES? ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

Alternatively, get the full client.
I have. Downloaded the 2 GB client using Chribba's torrent link. I'm seeding it now.
But really, ALL the patches should check for BITS support before downloading. Just a note for the future. ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

Don't spread misinformation, those are the full patches, they do not download anything. Whether they fail if you have BITS disabled I cannot say though.
Check it again buddy.
the patch links are for the auto downloaders. Unless you're trying to tell me that the PATCHES are 16 and 13 MEGABYTES respectively. Just a note: they aren't.
Those links will get you an auto downloader that downloads using Windows BITS and then runs the patch. If you are using WINE or are on XP without BITS support, those patches WILL NOT WORK.
The full installer will work, but ONLY because it checks for BITS support first before starting the download. ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

so if you get xp you cant auto patch ? and how you enable this BITS support ?
BITS support is a post SP2 add-on for XP. If your copy of XP is fully patched you WILL have BITS support. Which means that most players will have it. however, not everyone keeps their system up to date, and WINE users just don't have it at all as it's not implemented yet. ---- Fix the Wardec System! |
