Dear CCP,
The current installer is deleting the patch file as part of in the installation process, this means for multi-account/pc users we need to clog up the download by downloading several times.
Why does it auto-delete the patch file? I've got to download the 1.4GB patch 4 times on each of my 2 pc's, a total of 11.2GB.
Usually I just download the patch once, and then apply it 8 times. I cannot do this because the installer auto-deletes the file I've just spent 1 hour downloading.
Please fix the installer so that it doesn't auto-delete the patch file, this is going to be costing you guys way more than necessary on your bandwidth and total GB, and us customers in time too.
I was at 75883 pre-current TQ build, using the 1MB patch update file tool thing.
Thanks.

I understand the multi-PC bit, but why are you running separate installs for every account on the same machine? With 3 accounts myself, this is absolutely unnecessary.

Because CCP's technical advice for those running multiple accounts on one PC was to do exactly that; run them as separate installs.

I know you well in game my friend ;-)
What happens is this:
1 - The installer is 1MB file, it then does an auto-download of the real 1.4GB patch file.
2 - You run the installer and it asks where is the game client, it offers a location. I have 4 clients so I chose the first one.
3 - The installer THEN downloads the real 1.4GB patch file.
4 - Next it auto-installs the patch into the Client you pre-selected and then deletes the patch file.
That's right, it deletes the patch file without asking you, it just does it. So now you need to go back and run the installer again and re-download the patchfile, another 7 times in my case.

DL installer, DL client, run client, DL update, install update, if client doesn't need to update anymore change your settings. Then copy that EVE folder over to the other client folder.
If you went as far as making different client folders, why don't you then realise that copying is the easiest way?.

Aye, but like many others, I expected a pause in the install before that point to copy it to some other PCs. That way I'd get the minimum sized install and get to spread it around. I think I've got the .RTP before it was deleted .. now to re-download the .EXE.
During download the .RTP is called BITE.* and is found in the "\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\Downloads" directory.

Running 3 accounts on 1 system using 1 drive is a performance hit like you wouldn't believe!! All instances of the game are trying to read off the same drive!! That isn't good and can actually burn up a hard drive pretty quickly to be honest. Installing each one to a separate drive is ideal, not only for performance reasons but also for runability. This is also why you run your Virtual memory or swap file on a different drive/partition. But that is another topic :) . You sir would notice a a quicker response, I would bet on it!
To answer the OP's question, I too run 3 accounts on 1 machine with dual monitors, all instances running off separate drives. CCP actually make this very easy for us, for instance all you need to do is update 1 install and then just copy and paste that install, to your other 2. Done deal.
Hope this helps!

If you know the answer please post it.
You're welcome ;-)
FIX I am doing 2 methods at the moment, 1 is using the torrent which isn't listed and it's at: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0903/evepremiumpatch75883-84244_m.exe.torrent
The other is to download the 2 install files manually, but you will need to make copies because of the auto-delete. http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/evepremiumpatch75883-84244.exe http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVEPREMIUM.5.20.75883-6.10.83913.RTP
Those links are originally posted here on this page http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1017666&page=2, look for the post by Catari Taga.
So if anyone else has mutli-accounts/pc's then please just download those 2 files, make copies of them, and then you can re-use them. Make a copy before/after each install so you always have 2 versions of the files.

Does copying the folders accross each other affect overview, ship/items, market settings etc? I have these setup differently for my accounts. 2 are market/mission, 1 is pvp-merc, 1 is all other. If these are affected, are there specific files I need to leave out of the copying process, or files/folders I only need to copy?
Plenty of people are also having this issue, the helpfile replies are helping these other players as well as myself.
Thanks.

and if somebody wanted to use that many, then just download and patch the one, and copy/paste for the others, It'll even do very well over a shared network.

Program files are in %PROGRAMFILES%, User settings are in %APPDATA%, which is typically "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data". User settings for different installs on the same machine are kept under a directory structure like
%APPDATA%\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_CCP_EVE for c:\Program Files\CCP\EVE
or
%APPDATA%\Local\CCP\EVE\c_EVE for c:\EVE
That's why you can move around the eve folder, you just "lose" your settings doing so. Even so, you can go rename the folder to "find" them back.
Originally by: Kailiyah my concern when copying folders EVE folders across computers; does the patch update or add files to the windows folder?
No, you could even put EVE on a network share and let everyone play it from there (maybe not recommended for performance).

Well, I have had plenty of problems. I have 6 installs, 6 icons... Before I did that I had 'issues'.
However, I could run 6 classic clients, but only 2 premium. If CCP have ****ed up the client now I will be pretty ****ed off.... More graphics and more sound? What the hell is the point? I play most of the time with brackets off, zoomed all the way out, no sound and all details off. If I want to see what I hit, I can see that on the killboards. No reason for the client to display it...

He mentioned that he does this because running multiple accounts from one install causes frequent crashes and disconnects. I myself have the same problem unless I use classic client (which I can't do anymore), so I may have to do the same thing myself.

Pretty sure settings are saved per character, rather than per install, so the game folder should have no bearing.
That said, I imagine the patch will reset a lot of settings anwyay.
