Do a google of " EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe " for the complete client. You need a fast connection.

Yet another failure patch by CCP, at least this time the patch did not delete your boot.ini. For this we should be greatful I guess. From this thread it sounds like we got to delete everything and reinstall game. Click here for my High Security POS Service

Summary of many of these pages:
1)Terrific lag, slow downloads: this is gonna happen when 50,000 players try to download gigabytes of info. Your $15/mo subscription is not going to pay for backbone bandwidth so stop whining and be patient till the crowd thins out.
2) ...temporary downloading error...: I dunno if this is a general error given by the installer for any problem, but for me it meant that my c: drive did not have enough space for downloading the bulk data (i.e. the client file). It would have been nice for CCP to have coded a USABLE ERROR MSG THAT SAYS WHATS WRONG instead of a useless one that gives no clue. Reminds me of the bad old win95 days. But anyways, most players should not get this error as most people have one big c: drive instead of multiple smaller drives/partitions (like I do). The fix is to get enough space back. How much? Depends on how much data the installer thinks you need for your particular install. 1.3 gig maybe? One of the annoying things about this subject is that even if you have eve installed on another drive or partition, the installer will still use c: drive for the initial holding area (temp file) that the raw downloaded data goes to. I don't know if the actual location of this temp area is the TEMP folder...might be possible to bypass the error by changing your TEMP environmental variable to another (bigger) harddrive or partition. Don't do this if you don't know what you are doing. 8-)
3)You had the classic client: There are mixed statements about whether the classic client can be upgraded or not. Some say yes, some say no...I'm wondering if some of those yes's are players who actually had the premium client but had it set to classic mode. But whatever, if you get stuck then simply unintall eve and download/install the new client. You might save alot of frustration and time by starting over.
4)Installer won't work, tried everything: Alot of these complaints seemed to be posted right after the downtime. When I tried patching, there was only the "installer method" available. But about 12 hours later when I got home from work, it seems ccp decided to offer the straight whole client for download (for installing without an installer program) on one of their trouble pages. This is what I used, since I did not want to have to resize my c: drive to make the installer method work. Which file is this you ask? Its the one that has a _m (underscore M) in its name, right after the version number. But be aware that this download does indeed use TEMP has a temporary holding area for the raw download data so if TEMP is on a c: drive that is too small, it will fail. Also, after the download is done and you run it, it uses TEMP as a temporary area during the unpacking process.
4)I can't run premium, what do I do?: Well I can't run premium on two of my computers either. There is only one client download and it seems to figure out what you need all by itself. It properly installed Lite on my older computers.
5)Do I need the bulkdata file?: The bulkdata file is what the installer would download after you clicked on the installer icon. I guess the thinking was that if the installer was having trouble with downloading it then ccp would offer to let you download it yourself manually. I dunno how useful that was, cause if the installer can't download due to slow internet or a small c: drive, then trying to do it manually won't work either. /shrugs
6)Where is ccp? They are ignoring us.: Umm, I doubt that. They can only help so many people at a time. The rest will have to wait in line. Just like at the grocery store.
Thats all I got so far. I hope it helps someone. See you in the wormholes. 8-)

...how daft, little or no warning the patch was going to be so large. Was this uploaded as a Torrent? After all, that's exactly what the BitTorrent protocols were designed for.
Dangerous thing to be doing when my subscription is due and we're counting our pennies.
I've also heard, not wanting to get you all down or anything, but it checks hardware compatibility once it's finished. So what was okay to run Eve before, might not be okay now.
Hey ho, it may all be worth the wait - you never know...

It worked! Files are clean too!

Soon may consider cancelling my account. If I can't play why pay?

Edited by: Dario Kaelenter on 11/03/2009 07:32:27 MAN FFS!! I was running the SISI version which upgraded so much easier than this I started patch this morning b4 leaving for work ... 5.5 to 6.5 hrs to d/l ...
Came home to failure error and have to start all over again. Been having issues with international gateway on ISP for past 2 weeks too ... little spurts of 35 to 40% packet loss which hasn't helped ... sockets closed and lost connection were one thing tho I think having to patch 3 clients with 6hrs wait on each is ridiculous !
Looks like I'll have to ge a social life again ?!
And here i am on page 23 and no further CCP response ....

I am blown away by how amateurish EVE has approached it's new upgrade! First they link a non-working file from the log in all the while not providing a clear link to manually instal the patch. So after two attempts and many hours of frustration I finally resorted to using a Petition. Eventually I did get a reply but the link I was given for Mac users didn't work - 'Decompression Failed.' So I am at square one again which is nowhere. Normally I wouldn't complain knowing how overwhelmed EVE must be in getting their new system up and running, but this has to be the worst transition I have ever seen. I mean, how hard is it to download and test patches first before putting them up? Of course EVE is brilliant creativity wise but I suspect they get so caught up in detail that simplicity and common sense completely escapes them. EVE definitely needs some serious reorganizing in the management department - either that or stop spending so much time in space.

CCP, you didn't win any friends with this one. Large single file downloads are ALWAYS going to fail without the backup of lots of big pipes.
Take a cue from the WoW updater (licensing it probably would cost less than the revenue you will lose from this debacle). |

Usualy whenever a new patch was deployed , a link with download patch would show on the login screen and the link would then automaticaly download the new patch in the install EVE folder. The only links available to me now , after the deployment of the ''Apocrypha'' update, on the login screen are ''patch feedback'', ''patch notes'' and ''see here''. I followed the instructions in extracting the zip bulk data file in the EVE Online install folder and tried to connect to Tranquility but with no result , the login screen still shows incompatible version and the same above mentioned links . At this point I have no idea what to do anymore in order to get back into the game.

Who the **** thought this out? I was happy without a patch and frankly after teh web nerf I was happy without you f^cking ******s adding anything on to the content. The g0ddam carebears don't need any more warm fuzzy content and I was happy playing with semi-working content! BOB isn't going to come back after this and will never have the majority of hte new pie, so stop ****ing things up and don't implement a new patch untill it won't **** things up...your other option is to **** off the people who pay your bills month after month and lose a LOT of 14.95 subscriptions! Managed to get online simply without need to cross patch, bulkdata install etc.
EvE Classic is dead - They should really have removed the dowload option of EvE Classic before the update. Hindsight perfect hey.
My system not supportive of Premium, so dowloaded anyway and used setings screen in game to get it working as best as possible with graphics card etc this PC has.
Dowloaded EvE Premium (despite warnings) and installed. Simple. At Login Screen - Settings - Optimize Settings - Either Optimize settings for performance or just put both options to low.
Worked for me to get in and check skills etc. Can fly etc. All functions working.
Only glitch I still have unresolved on graphics is a flashing transparent/solid ship and starbase. Not too bad for a 5 year old PC that hasn't been graphics upgraded for gaming.

Well after a good night's sleep I feel that for the sake of fairness I have to report...
...that after we found out that "temporary error downloading" = "not enough space on C:", everything worked rather fine. Some 2 hours for download, no further problems, new release looks and feels neat so far. One needs to get used to it, but that's always the case.
Doesn't mean that CCP shouldn't better have thought about some things in advance... but at least the product seems to be far from an "epic fail". For what it's worth to the rest of us all.

Edited by: Bird0g on 11/03/2009 10:26:56 I`m now at work, downloading the full installation thing, I have un-installed the copy of eve that was working perfectly 2 days ago.
The installer is donwloading the 1994MB file, I`m at 50%, I get an error every so often, but clicking the "Retry" button resumes the download, its happened maybe 5 time so far, hopefully this will ot corrupt the file.
The only problem I can see at the moment is that I am on my companies network and I can`t bypass the firewall, I`m hopeing the installer doesn`t get to the point were it has to connect to some other port, because the firewall will stop it.
Is the 1994MB file that the installer is downloading saved somewhere locally ? on my C:/ ?
I also notice, having read this entire thread from the begining that CCP have`nt made any additional posts with information, this is really bad and you (CCP) need to get this sorted out, you cannot treat paying customers this way.
For everyone who has posted information (paying customers) thank you all very much, hopefully this will be working again sometime soon.

Have you not even realised over the years, that with all the expansions, including this mother of all expansions, CCP have never charged any of us a cent!
Any other game, will happily charge its player base $30-50 or more for any expansion they release, plus more for additional items and "special member areas". Whilst CCP work their A**es off, working around the clock, developing this amazing game, and spending countless hours developing new expansions such as this, to be released free of charge. Most of you all, all you can do is complain, and whinge because not everything is going your way.
Cut some slack, do the math, when you've got tens of thousands of people trying to download thousands of GB at any one time, it's not always going to download quick and fast.
And as frustrated as I am at the same issues everyone else is facing, it doesn't mean I have to be an a**hole about it.
With such a massive expansion, where all very excited to experiance the changes in gameplay, which I can understand results in frustration when things don't work perfectly, but seriously, look at the bigger picture, problems do occur.
All I'm saying is, most of you need to show some respect and gratefullness at what CCP are offering us, for all the hard work they have done to provide us with these FREE expansions, which others would happily be charging us a bucket for, especially in these hard financial times.

I could not get my old client to even initiate a download of anything, not the update, not bulkdata nothing (yes I tried replacing bulk data files). Still all I got was the "Incompatible protocol (version)" message... For all of you whining that it takes a long time to download everything etc. Do what has been said before.. google EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe and download it from the web (use a download manager if you want to speed up things and/or have problems with ISPs disconnecting you etc..) I downloaded and installed the entire package within 20 minutes. So just download is and skip the whole CCP update procedure. EVE works just the same once you have the client ;) I for one think it is great that we see some good updates to the EVE universe. And would not EVE be a dead game if CCP did not follow the progress of computers to keep up with other games in terms such as graphics etc. Good job. Yes there are some bugs that need to be sorted out, perhaps the upgrades in particular. But it looks good!

i dont believe so alot of ppl i know dont give a damn about the graphics of the game its all in the gameplay IMHO thats wot drew me to eve 3 years ago and is still what draws me to eve now but if im reading right i may not b able to play even after i do download if they have upgraded the minimum specs im basically screwed, i was runnin on bare minimum specs for quantum rise and bein unemployed and earnin ú120 every 2 weeks which provides me with food electric and nicotine i may not b able to get back on eve for a good few months.
but as with the whingin part yes i complained last night when i was havin touble i even remember tellin em to pull there fingers out of there arses lol, but it goes to show that CCP for all the pain they cause with lack of communication the fact of it is they have created a amazing game which draws ppl back time and time again and all the whingers myself included will never stop whinging but we will always comeback for more no matter what. 17 mins left fingers crossed lets hope i can still play i wanna use my geddon

I think some people are forgetting that the expansions are not free. No one does anything for free. We all pay to play, and ccp like that. They make expansions to keep us all hooked on the game, and therefore we continue to pay to play. IT IS NOT FREE.
Yes we all have problems with patching etc, and this was a very bad one, but we still like the game and still continue to want to play it. The people at ccp are working and doing a good job, but it is a job, they do get paid.

My God, CCP must be saints to put up with such a bunch of whingers.
It's simple. If you have a decent spec PC with good graphics (EVE doesn't demand top of the range shader cards after all), keep it virus free and updated with latest drivers you shouldn't have any trouble applying the patch and getting back into EVE.
And don't expect a substantial update like this to download quickly if you are paying for a cheapo slow, capped usage connection. Get with an ISP that offers a decent connection speed and low contention ratio and you'll be fine.
Take heart CCP - there are obviously thousands of players who successfully managed to apply the patch and get into Apocrypha without any problems at all. But of course we're playing quite happily and have no need to come on the forums and whinge.
I only posted this here because a) It's downtime atm so I have the chance to do so without losing EVE playing time b) You need to know that there are those who appreciate all your hard work c) Congratulations for a rollout that ran according to the published schedule.

Grab the files manually using a download manager, I should also imagine there will be somebody seeding this as a torrent file somewhere. Test servers resolve most of the issues but not all, this is the world of online gaming, things sometimes go wrong.

I noticed at first that the client files and patches on the website hadn't been updated for the new version release. Ok maybe an oversight but I saved a lot of time by looking at the version number at the end of the filename and not downloading those. Posted a petition explaining this, but in the meantime the new files had been put there for us all to enjoy. So you quite possibly downloaded the old client files again :S
I did manage to find a work around and download the new patches from another source, but its pointless posting the link now as CCP have done there job now.
Yeah it was a pain, I got a little confused, now I'm sat here waiting for the server to startup ...
