Something else I noticed last night - When entering a station (Gallente Fed Int), in that brief instant when the station is rendered but your ship is loading - the sound was at normal levels. It immediately muted when the ship loaded. This would seem to support the ship-centered positional audio issues as well.

Also getting sound issues here. Volumes seem off, and i also get loud PPPPOOOOOOPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!! noises seemingly randomly in space, but particularly often when i am blowing up ships. A corpmate has the popping and thought his speakers were blowing up, hahaha!

Edited by: Sandrine Starfire on 19/03/2009 01:52:53 Hello again !
I think i understand now my problems with the sound and the differences of the volume of the sound on a station and the warp effect sound. I realized, that my headset is not able to play the chimes with low frequencies very loud. But my 5.1 Sound System with Subwoofer is able to play these.

Was hoping they may have fixed this in that little hotfix they did on the 17th guess might take abit longer. Only way i have got around it, well kinda got around it is to turn my in game master volume up to ten, turn the others down apart from my world effects thats turned up to 10 as well. Then pray to god i remember to turn it down again before i dock. Not the best solution in the world but at least i can hear stargates and my turrets and missle now |

Edited by: Wet Ferret on 19/03/2009 07:54:25 Sound crackles and my right speaker shuts off when warping with the map open, doesn't matter which map. Goes back to "normal" when I close the map, with another wonderful crackle
Ships explosions causing nasty crackles like others have reported. Even with World Volume set to zero.
Of course everything else in this thread is relevant. It's time to abolish the lame sound-at-camera feature once and for all. I expect to be able to see the game how I want to and still be able to hear it. Surely, this cannot be too much to ask!!!
edited to add: Setting my computer to 5.1 (I actually have 2 speaker + sub) sort of fixed the speaker-shutting-off in the map, but there's still a nice loud crackle for me. Really unnerving tbh
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Edited by: Lin Lei on 19/03/2009 17:34:25 My petition (bug report) about the volume differences has been closed.
The status is fixed in: TEX 1.0.2
But to be honest, I have no idea what TEX stands for. Has anyone any ideas? |

That's good news. At least there is some official acknowledgment of the problem. What is strange to me is that people who played on the test server didn't have any issues, yet they did on Tranq after Apoc launched. Should have been the same version of the code on test and what was put on live.
I sure hope they fix it soon. I play eve late at night. Eve isn't exactly an adrenaline rush anyway, and playing the game in forced silence has put me to sleep, literally. |

There was a whole thread on test about this issue. It was ignored as this thread has been.
A new patch was issued today on Sissi. I can tell you that the problem persists. It seems there has been some fiddling with the sound. However, zoom more than 7km away from your ship and all is silent.

Well my petition has been completely ignored - I asked politely if they were going to sort out the sound issues. So I'm afraid since the game is unplayable until they fix this i'm not subscribing till it's fixed. I only hope they bother to tell people when it is ...

This really is getting ridiculous, especially because they dont even see it fit, to give us an answer on this problem. I started the game like a month ago, and i will cancel playing if this is not fixed soon. This is NOT meant as a threat or anything like it. But as several ppl have stated: This game IS, to make a harsh judgement, boring. Without sound a fall asleep during fights.

I'm having this issue too.
There's also a strange occurrence where some stations seem incredibly loud where others have no sound at all.

lol, I already lost a ship because of it. I was sitting at my safespot scanning the system and while gathing informations via the "show info" pages of the found ships and some chars in local someone found me and killed me without me hearing *anything* (the Info-Window was non-transparent so I didn't even see the hitpoints going down). I got notified by the blinking mail-icon that I had a "ship loss" and was all "wtf????", then closing the info-window and seeing my pod being locked. I was glad to escape the podding by hitting the warp button like a maniac.
It's really bad here, unless you are fully zoomed on your ship (and then its unplayable because you basically see nothing else in space), you hear nearly *nothing*.
It can't be so hard to just give an official statement about it or release a workaround/patch?

Based on this old thread I guess they overhauled the audio engine. And it sounds like they haven't ironed out all kinks yet.
But I'd imagine it's just matter of time they get the sound levels tuned up. Or that's what I at least hope...

Yesterday after a mining operation I was hauling my stuff back to the station. I made several trips to the asteroid belt and once in the belt I could still hear the station sounds.

After Apochribba patch I have just disabled the sound in EVE. Guess I won't be enabling it for quite a while.
At least now I can be one of those tough guys saying

Yeah, that's pretty much it for me as well. Turn down the sound and play T00L instead. Much more entertaining.

And there I was thinking it was just my crappy hardware - some dodgy audio codec pretending to be a SoundBlaster. I noticed that things had gone very quiet when I patched to Apocrappy. Now, I can't hear my guns firing or ship explosions half the time and also get a lot of pops and crackles. Guess I should file a bug report.

I got random popping sound when I tried out the audio after the expansion when hunting belt rats. I think it might have been caused when the rats ship exploded. I have also noticed that the sound effects appear to be completely de-synced with what is displayed on the screen. My ship fires its guns and more often than not the sound effect does not happen.
I use a 5.1 surround sound system and the popping noise is very loud. The de-sync issue is just annoying. I use a Realtek Codec and only eve seems to have problems.

I have just seen that this is listed as a know issue, so I take back my implied critic that they arenÆt listening. Still it would be nice if someone would tell us in this thread that they know about this problem and are working on it.

Playing around some more, I noticed that maxing my master volume, while not ideal, does seem to help bring out the channels more. For the smartarses that are sure to respond that this is obvious, I keep the master at 3/4 volume and the others maxed to prevent distortion. And this configuration worked fine pre-patch. Might be worth looking at seems to push more volume to the center channel and the stereo effect is back for many sounds such as voice and engine. Haven't tried combat yet but will later tonight. |
