And since the patch I dont here any Lasers or guns. Missiles still have the zoom in Problem. But thats not a bug, but a feature and thus won't be "fixed".

Very intermittent turret sounds from lasers of any size on any ship i fly since the patch on Thursday 26th March. Sound is there for maybe 10-15 shots after logging in (albeit very quiet) and then no turret sound at all. Missiles seem fine. Not tried hybrids or projectiles.

I'd still like to hear missiles/turret on both my own ship and other ships, please. Sound from explosions would be nice as well.

This is a MAJOR issue that hasn't even gotten a flinch from CCP thus far. My petition came back with general driver updating info, which is nice, but not at all the problem at hand.

I've got the same problem as most people here - virtually no combat sounds unless I zoom right in to my ship. Been like that every since Apocrypha. I thought/hoped 1.02 might fix it but nope. Bug report submitted, waiting to hear what they say.
Do you think if we get it up to 200 replies on this thread someone from CCP might at least bother to comment as to what's going on? :) Total silence from them so far.
Or do I have to zoom in <5km to hear their reply?

Less then 5000m? Do you hear something at 4000m? I can't say that I do ... but maybe I need to update my sound drivers :) ... or maybe I blasted my speakers out awhile ago going from a combat situation into a station ... or maybe it just doesn't work.

No turret sounds at all firing rails, usually. Once in a while I hear some muted gunfire, like its far away. I get a little noise from tractor beams and salvage modules, but not much. Audigy 2 ZS soundcard, but it was the same if not worse with onboard audio when I first got this PC going.

Edited by: Arec Bardwin on 28/03/2009 06:49:13 It would seem that CCP introduced a totally new sound engine with Apochribba (without making sure it worked properly )
EVE Online To Integrate Wwise Audio Solution
We can only hope that they have realised there is a sound problem and are working to fix it, eventually. Working with a new sound engine that might take a while getting used to perhaps? Some sort of statement on the matter would be nice though.

In all honesty, I dont even log on anymore because of apocrypha's issues. (first sound now sound + CTDs) It wont be long before I decide to ditch this game altogether. It was great prior to apoc but now it's just nothing to me but a glorified chat program spanning millions of small servers.

Originally by: Whiff H- Lower the acceleration to none and run the game, if there are no distortions move the acceleration up one bar and run the game again. Continue this until you get distortions and lower the bar to it's last working position. -If you have EAX enabled anywhere in your soundcard settings, disable it. EAX has been known to cause troubles with Eve.
That's why i allready suggested that CCP puts back the option to disable or enable hardware acceleration in the sound options like it was in Quantium Rise.

and also i don't like the new sound for large energy pulses the old sound was better.

Same problems with combat sounds attenuating too quickly, becoming inaudible when zoomed-out beyond around 3 km from the source. This is unacceptable. CCP please either fix the current sound engine or bring back the old one. The old one wasn't perfect, but at least it worked. ...

Not sure wether someone else posted this fix or not yet:
For those missing turrets / lasers noises after the patch, exit the game completely, then go in your EvE cache folder and totally delete the "cache" folder and sub folders.
Do NOT also delete the folder called "settings", for obvious reasons (but I never believe to be obvious enough, so I write it here).
Restart the game, my turrets sounds came all back.

How far can you zoom out from your ship and still hear the your turret sounds? ...

emptying the cache didnt help for me, and the issue with the turret sounds is, that the come and go randomly. O btw: CCP will NOT put the old sound engine back. No matter how long we will have to live without (proper) sound.
And, again: Since they try to fix this problem client side (see answers from GMs) I dont think they see a bug in the current sound engine thus, i hardly beliee they will fix anything. The lack of answers from CCP in this thread should be enough proof (if you see in which stupid threads they post you'll start to wonder...).
Changing sound back, so you actually here, everthing no matter the distance (Distance from ship shouldnt matter anyway, because the sound is produced IN THE POD, see storyline) will NEVER occur too. CCP still thinks, they had some brilliant and revolutionary idea.
So its a "Live with it or leave it" mentality CCP has started. I'm gone with the end of my subscription. Good thing for CCP that will be over a month time.

I just patched to Apocrypha and i discovered the problem, that the volume differences of soundeffects are large. If i target something, the sound volume was allright. Then i warped and just didn't heared the warp sound. So i raised the volume nearly to max. There it was, the sound. Btw. very cool. But when i started to target again, i got deaf, because the targeting sound was so loud.
Can you plz fix that CCP ?
Thx.

I have this problem also, and I find it incredibly annoying
Use of Tactical Overlay results in negating all sounds of battle. The immersion quality of being in an MMO is completely negated.

I was also having problems with my UI/effect sounds but when I reconfigured my speaker setup in windows it fixed the problem. I think it has to do with what an earlier poster was saying. Its like EVE is forcing 5.1 on everybody, I just made sure that my speakers were probably configured in windows and I could hear everything.

At what range? Can you hear everything if you zoom out from your ship to 20km? Or even 5km?

I'm experiencing similar issues with nonexistant turret sounds on a 7.1 multichannel capable realtek HD audio chipset. Fortunately i'm very computer savvy (network systems engineer) and i've done some testing on my x64 vista ultimate core 2 duo that leaves me and i'm sure many others with a troubling result.
Vista ships with provided drivers for most intel based HD audio chipsets however this provided driver does not include the advanced utility to configure active sound channels, set the HD audio speaker configuration to 5.1, 7.1 or disable certain sound output channels for various speakers. This feature is however available with the realtek HD audio chipset driver available from realtek.
As we all know apocrypha included a new sound engine that by default appears to make attempts to enforce 5.1 audio either virtually on 2 channel audio systems or forces anyone with a 5.1 or 7.1 capable HD audio chipset to REQUIRE owning a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system to hear all the available sounds. I currently own a 2 speaker left and right channel speaker set which is connected to the front left and right channel plugin and unless I explicitly enable 5.1 audio and force disable every sound output besides the front and rear channels in the realtek audio utility I hear no turret sounds whatsoever and then the sounds i do hear are very distant or inaudable unless i'm zoomed in all the way to my currently active ship or rotated in the right direction to "move" the sounds produced to the appropriate sound channels I have speakers connected to. As well unless I use the realtek driver turret sounds will not work at all meaning the windows provided HD audio driver does not function with the game sound engine unless you own a 5.1 channel or better surround capable speaker system for your computer. This essentially means that for a LOT of people with newer computers the game will fall short of it's intended immersion with the new sound engine due to it's disfunctionality.
This situation leaves me and many others with two avenues to remedy the situation. Buy a new 5.1 capable speaker system retailing around $150.00 CND or deal with it and hope ccp remedies the issue swiftly. While I really do commend the dev's for moving towards implementing in game capable surround sound this delicate issue does appear as if it will affect a great percentage of the player base.

//Hi there, //Thank you for submitting this but this is by design, the only thing I can suggest is that you turn //up the effects volume <=/. If there are any revelations about this then we will investigate it //further. //Thank you, //BH Tronyran
This effectively means that in the foreseeable future many of us will not be able to enjoy the game to the fullest anymore.

Nice. Those who use a headset (myself included) are screwed then. Getting more used to playing EVE without sound, soon I'll be a permanent member of the "EVE has sound? "-tough guys

I can't confirm that.
I run the game with a Theatron DD Card, connected via Toslink to my Audio receiver. my 5.1 Surround speakers were expensiv as hell, as well as my receiver.

Working as intended. Oh, and by the way having a 5.1 surround speaker system does nothing to fix this problem. CCP=EA Games.
