Yeh this autopatcher sucks. I hope ccp puts up a direct link for the exe, because a download max of 15kb/s is terrible. And torrents dont work too well for me either. So ccp, please upload a direct link for us.

Edited by: Kaled Kaan on 10/03/2009 18:41:14 Gahh I thought mine was slow at 70-90 kb/s but if you have only 15 then wow I feel bad for you!
But seriously, what the hell is going on that there is no alternative download or even that it's so damn slow? 3-4 hours to get a 1gb patch is really slack.
p.s. no it's not my connection, my average download speed on speedtest.net is 12000kb/s |

Edited by: skuggan on 10/03/2009 18:40:46 ofc the day of patch everyone will be eager to get the updated client, and speeds will be reduced.
However i found a way that might help others get it faster.
Use a download manager ( i use firefox + downthemall plugin) https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/201
then add the following url to downthemall http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe (edit: yes it's the legit direct dl link from ccp) that made me max my connection (2mb/s) -- Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip. |

I hear people blaming this on other peoples' connections. Explain then why when I try to download the game from scratch it downloads faster (1.5 hrs) yet the patch takes approx. 16 hours to download. Also, I tested this out on music and movies. The download speed was OK for them.
P.S. I know the actual reason why it is taking ages, the question was rhetorical.

The Autoupdate was 70 kb/s for me, bit too slow, would have taken bout 8hrs it said. So i download the Full Client at 1,4mb/s, only 22minutes now left :)
But i am wondering, Patch is 1,3GB Full Client is 1,9GB, is this really such a big update that nearly everything has changed?!?

No the patch is NOT slow - I've just tested it again and its still maxing out my connection (18Mbps~=2MB/s). What it is is a bunch of americans who use ISPs that don't believe there's anything outside the USA that's worth looking at. Seriously - most US ISPs have heard of peering but think its some sort of communist idea. Suck it up yanks.

Didnt you stop to think that might be why, go catch up on the washing or somthing my god lol..
Also one of you could always take up the intiative and upload it to a torrent site for people to download it, or is that only allowed to be done by CCP?
EDIT: lol at Lupus you noob this must be your first expansion release since you started playing, i set 8-18 day skills on my toons before they release a patch. --------------------------

Yea, its taking me 10 hrs for 1 patch. But it is patch day and it will be slow. But my high-speed internet is only doing 50-70kb/s when it should be at 200-300... But I will live. And for all of you who think you have to do it 3x you don't. Just copy the first one or save the setup. (aka hit the save instead of run button). I dont know if this will work yet though since I have not gotton the expansion downloaded yet. But even if it does not work you can always just copy the darn thing and make it a shared file for your other comps or better yet put it on a usb drive so you can take it anywhere. (Like school! )

Just to make this clear - I can get the patch at 2MB/s from Leicester NOW (19:58) so give it a rest. Meh. I happen to live in one of the few areas of Britain which has no broadband access. The availability literally stops 1/2 a mile down the road. Instead, I have to subscribe to a rather slow wireless mast (luckily virtually in my back garden with unlimited bandwidth). Normally, I get speeds of 70k/sec. I'm struggling to push 35 at the moment. It feels like I'm trying to suck up a lake through a drinking straw.

No, not quite that bad, although still rather dire. Its a commercial wireless hotspot system, with masts scattered around the county. They do have a habit of cutting me off for days at a time due to their automated subscription billing software being pathetic. According to the downloader, it should be finished sometime tomorrow afternoon, in the (unlikely) event that my ISP doesn't decide to dump me offline for the hell of it while I'm at work.
