Nice job. Sound and various sound levels need some work but all in all, a major improvement over the old client. Thank you.

Hell yes.
After I turned off resource caching.... did a few level 3's... my console was... for the first time in months.... empty.
Thank you CCP... bout f'ing time.
PS: it crashed on quit.. but what the hell.. I was quitting the game right? Who gives a damn! =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com ===============

Holy crap!
It's faster than the classic client, more stable, and runs fine with maxed settings. I'm honestly very impressed, this is better than I could have imagined.
Plus we finally get that pre-splash screen :)
Thanks CCP!

May I ask what Macs you are running it on?
The reason I ask is that I am struggling to get acceptable frame rates on my imac 24" with the ATI HD2600PRO 256Mb card - It lurches randomly from around 20fps down to 15-20fps even while not moving when I try all effects off and meduim textures and shaders.

I cant run the client on anything more than the lowest graphic levels (iMac 24" NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT w/ 2 Gigs of RAM).
I could dualboot into windows though... not happening :-P I bought a mac for a reason

/me agrees Space Lord - nice job - premium is graphically tasty on my Macbook Pro. Unexpectedly it uses far less processor resources than the classic version, which makes for less fan noise.

No performance issues at all, but my unibody MBP heats up to 100C fairly rapidly and hovers there under medium settings. That is...questionable in terms of safety.

I strongly suggest you run SMC Fan Control before you lose your computer entirely to a scrap pile of melted goo.
I also have an MBP (Current model) and it runs just fine. =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com ===============

I second this. The only crash I have so far managed to get was while jumping between systems and changing graphic settings at the same time.
Thank you very much!

This version is sweet. The bugs I'm getting sound like the same thing everyone else is getting, according to local chatter (sporadic heavy lag in crowded systems, sound issues, etc.) so I'm not going to file a redundant bug report. The look and feel is great. I'm looking forward to seeing this version get ironed out.
FYI, I'm running on a 20" iMac 2.66Ghz Dual Core with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro chipset.

This is with smcFC set to 6200rpm.
For those having similar issues, setting the presentation interval to 1 dropped the temperature for me by 15-20C. Which is still hot, but no longer ridiculous.

Edited by: Drake Draconis on 11/03/2009 22:03:00 You said 100 C... taken literaly that's beyond meltdown... your MBP would be dead.
Now if you meant F... that's different.
I'll try the interval switch... would be nice to pull back to the mid 50's instead of 60C

Running smoothly around 60 degrees on my unibody MacBook 13" and I must say I'm pleased .. running about 25-30 fps with medium settings .. all in all a graphic level where I love it, compared to the old ... running around 60-63 C with SMC running at 6000 rpm, seems fine to me ..
Thugh had an odd crash just now .. I got a DC while doing a jump, it stuck on "Jumping" message .. just went seethrough in the start system and disconnected me .... now I am stuck on not being able to log in, when I select my character it goes stuck on "Entering game as AJiria" .. it loads the bar up full, but then just stucks ... dno what to do about it :S
Just had a mate try logging it in on his Windows box - no change, still stucks at entering game, right when bar is full ...
Anyone know a fix?

100C+. And I assume smc isn't being glitchy because iStat backed it up.
Out of curiosity, what does your unibody idle at?

Metal doesn't melt at the same temperature that water boils. If your logs don't indicate overtemp, you're probably fine, but you could certainly run Apple Hardware Test, that would check the thermal sensors on the logic board for appropriate functionality.

Yes, much nicer than the old client so far. Here are my observations on a 15 unibody MPB:
-Temp: When I first logged in temp shot up to 90C, but has now stabilized at around the 80-84C range. Fans seem to be continually running around 6200RPM. Seems like things are working as they should, no? -The T2 blasters on my Ishkur don't render at all. I mean they show up in the fitting window, the weapons overview and they are functional (they go pew pew) but otherwise are totally invisible, even when active. -Weird graphics glitches at a POS. The energy shield looked weird, it seemed way too close with odd graphics effects running through it. Also there were some other weird graphical artifacts when you looked around the POS, like smoke from a ship with hull damage coming from an undamaged moon mining module (or from that general direction anyway).
That's it so far.
Cheers,Code

100C is outside the safety range for long-term use of any consumer silicon products. Even high-end desktop GPUs aren't supposed to get above 90C.
And the smoke thing appears to be a general client bug, it's happening on Windows machines too. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

This dosen't make sense guys.... I idle at around 35 to 45C
EVE running is an average of 60C
Interval switch didn't change anything.. running it in immediate mode for now.
Just so you guys understand why your insane if those are true numbers.
100 C = 212 F!!!!!!! 60 C = 140 F 40 C = 113 F 30 C = 86 F
Got it?
even 60 makes me nervous.... but that swhy I run the fans at maxium.
My iStat matches my SMC readings here.
Somethings screwy if your seeing temp's THAT HIGH!
I idle my fans at 3700 RPM and when playing EVE I force them to 6200 RPM.
There are 2 fans... I run them both at the same speed.
I'm also running the "2nd GPU"... I might run a bit cooler if I kicked it out into the "1st GPU". But that may degrade EVE a bit on performance.
And also that talk about metal melting has nothing to do with it.... if the laptop is melting... your just a wee bit beyond the fried CPU stage... yeah.... keep it cool folks. =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com ===============

First of all, my iMac temp sensors (if we're assuming that iStat is 100% accurate on the data it gathers) shows GPU diode at 75 to 80 degrees Celsius and this is normal.
The reasons I know it's normal are 1. My fans have not exceeded 1500 RPMs because at the current speed, they are cooling the machine. Apple designs the temp sensors to rev the fans when things get too hot. 2. My logs have no indication of a temperature over the range of allowed temperatures being recorded. The Apple SMC sends information to the software to log any overtemp reported by the temp sensors. 3. I've been playing for over a year without any hardware failures. 4. Even Apple would tell you that if your processors reach 180 degrees F or 80 degrees C, that is normal under a full load.
Originally by: Drake Draconis You said 100 C... taken literaly that's beyond meltdown... your MBP would be dead.
Verite is right, if your temp sensor is reporting 100 C or more, that could damage the chips, however, that is not "beyond meltdown". Apple also designs the machines to shut down if an overtemp is logged and the machine cannot cool itself properly. So, if the machine is not randomly shutting down, you may have a faulty temp sensor, in either case, running AHT would be advisible, however those numbers are not insane.
If you really think 140 F is hot, you should try holding a cup of coffee!

Your taking years of life off of that thing... I suggest you get it looked at or you take appropriate measures to keep it cooler.
Even CCP says its dangerous... but don't listen to me.. I'm just a crazy idiot who fixes them for a living... I don't know nothing about Macs... yep....
See yah.
CCP: Keep up the good work... I'm loving my new updated EVE Client on my MBP.
Now to go get a cooling pad to lower the temp even further. ^_^; =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com ===============
