Hi,
one thing is for sure laptops/mobile computers will always give trouble be it by the components or stuff like shared memory. It has always been a fact of computer life, there are some exceptions to this problem but then again you will pay the price for it (Alienware, laptops with non shared memory, high end laptops) But that said, I of course do no know your setup, any way most laptops in the lower prize range will have trouble working with the new apoc expansion and the premium lite would be good solution when it comes out.
Any way upgrading your PC... there many ways to go with that, the most important one is information gathering. What kinda budget you have and what needs to be upgraded...
For example, 1 year ago my old PC was dying it worked but the blue screen where getting totally out of hand. Of course it could be XP or driver related but what ever i did it did help reinstalls and so on. So basically it was at it end of life after 5 years. Time to buy a new one but i had no real budget to buy a new gamer PC so I started to search around getting info about PC's it took me about 1 to 2 days. I had a budget of around 400 euro not much and you get a system for that but i wanted to play games also. After some searching I found a retailer called Mediamarkt in Holland and they where selling Packard bell computers (for peeps outside of europe sorta like Dell and HP) they where selling a system for about 599 that met my expectations still it was over my budget and no monitor. But with some negotiation I could buy the system for 599 and a 19"LCD monitor which was a good deal because normally the system would cost 899 euro with out a monitor. Why was it 200 euro cheaper well the system was allready a year on the market
Now a year further the system is still purring along and I have added some upgrades to it. I upgraded memory to 2 Gb (bare minimum for Vista) I upgraded the CPU after 6 months I upgraded the soundcard (creative) I upgraded the GFX card from a Nvidia 7900 to 8500GT 1 Gb. (ASUS)
total cost for that about 400 euro just to increase preformance.
Yeah i had some other stuff added to my PC besides that 2 external HDD, 1 extra 19" monitor, G15 keyboard, MX logitech mouse) make the cost higher.
All i wanna tell with this story if you put your mind to it and are content with not buying high end stuff you can buy a system that works. Sure it's not top of the line but i can play Eve and WoW, plus other games.
yeah it uses Vista but (and i will get flamed for this) Vista is in lot's of ways better then XP, it's not the memory hog lot's of peeps say about it. Sure it has it's problems but since SP1 i had no real trouble with it, except when i screwed around to much with software. it's all in the tweaking and customizing of vista.
