I've seen a few BSOD threads in here, but nobody mentioned shaders here when it comes to users having problems running Apoc.
I am also troubled when trying to run the client now, due to video card problems. During Quantum Rise, I was actually able to run the premium content on my machine with few problems even though my PC and video card aren't even remotely top of the line.
Now in Apocrypha, I can't run the client without getting the BSOD. While sitting in station, I get a lot of graphical corruption, up to the point where I crash.
I heard this might have something to do with "shaders". I'm not too tech saavy, but I am under the impression that my video card cannot handle "SM2".
I'm assuming that this SM2 is something that is downloaded with the expansion. The question is: is it possible to upgrade my video drivers to make my card compatible with SM2, or is there anything I can download to make it compatible?
tl;dr: Apoc crashes my PC. Video card is screwed. Want to know if updating my drivers will help. I was able to run premium in QR.

If you're able to get into the program, I'd say your card does accept SM2 and the problems you report are something else. Cards with less than SM2 will not even allow you to run the program as far as I know.

Edited by: Ichigo Prime on 11/03/2009 17:33:54 I'd advise that you update your video card drivers frequently anyway, even if you aren't experiencing any problems. Some people disagree and take the stance "if it ain't broken don't fix it" but it's not always as simple as that. When updating BIOS or your Hard Disk Drive it might be true, but you can easily roll-back video drivers if something goes wrong.
If you're experiencing graphic related problems the first thing that most techies will tell you to do is update your video drivers.

Graphical corruption = overheating in most cases, time to break out the pressurized air cans and clean out the computer, and also a good idea to set Interval to 1 in advanced graphics options. That effectively caps framerate in EVE to refresh rate on your display, and tends to lead to less heat.
Corrupted textures = overheating ram (on gfx card) in most cases. Corrupted polygons = overheating processor (on gfx card) in most cases.

I'm not sure what model your graphics card actually is, and if that's even your problem; but if your graphics card does not support shader model 2, then the answer is simple: No. Your graphics card actually has to be able to understand shader model 2 stuff. That's nothing that can be fixed with software, that something that has to be addresses by the hardware in question. Long story short: replace your graphics card if it does not support shader model 2 (which is already pretty darn common for several years).
That aside, I somewhat doubt your problem can be traced to shader model issues. If your graphics card has one of those neat temperature sensors, try to find software that is able to give your its current degrees and have a close look at them.
