First of all, thank you for your input and updates! I will be correcting the mistakes and add/edit content with some of your suggestion, which add to the quality!
Second, I am currently finishing the exploration section of the guide. It will be added I hope tomorrow with the various mistake corrections.
I think this is the most sought section, it will contain very little info about how to deploy into WH space (because I personally havent had time to test it extensively) but detailed probing tutorials.
I also plan to release starbase and outpost sections this week, and finally market and invention the week after!
After that it'll be time to polish it all up. I expect there will be quite a few mistakes or incorrect information, I'm counting on community feedback to really make it "complete"!

very nice guide
but could you explain more about the formula on page 30 360 * 1.25 * 1.25 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.05 * 1.05 * 1.05^2 * 1.75 = 1819.75 m3/cycle
where comes the third 1.15 from and why 1.05^2 (if its for mlu then it must be 1.09^2)
and on page 27 price(s) of mlu is(are) wrong

the third is the enhanced mining foreman bonus (which is 15% instead of 10%) and the 1.05^2 is for MLU1. MLU1 didn't exist when that formula was written at first, I sort of never changed it. ★ LSJV now recruiting ★ |

Edited by: Alaris Nightshadow on 18/03/2009 22:50:42 Hey Halada, I noted an error in Section 11.1
You say the following: "...the laser optimization link will reduce your cycle time (it doesnĘt affect ice harvesters by the way)..."
However the Item Description says: "Decreases mining lasers/ gas harvester and ice harvester duration."
Also there is no Ice Harvesting Link any longer, it was replaced by the Capacitor Reduction or Laser Range link( I forget which one though)
I disagree with your opinion that the Capacitor link is useless though, albeit it has a very specific use. Mining High-end Ore with T2 Lasers and Crystals (as all crystals have a cap usage modifier), the reduction in cap usage makes it much easier to manage a tank in 0.0, as you don't need to worry about staggering your lasers ----------------------------------------------- "EVE isn't meant to look like a harsh, uncaring universe..........it is one..." |

Four items/suggestions/...
1) How come no suggestions for using MLU II x3 instead of MLU I x4 on a Rokh? Using EFT, they seem to fit using Co-Processor II x2. 1.09^3 = 1.295029 > 1.21550625 = 1.05^4 and you still have some CPU for a tank.
2) Why aren't the refining tables filled out for combinations of Refining/Ore Processing? For a new miner, Refining 4 + Veldspar 4 = 98.60% yield at a 50% station, which is quick and useful to know.
3) The mineral values in section 13.1 are nice to have updated to closer to current values, but the ore table below seems to be using the older numbers, giving completely bad values for, say, Kernite and Veldspar in ISK/m^3. Veldspar: table = 90.09, calculation = 126.73 Kernite: table = 119.88, calculation = 91.91.
4) Another thought: The usefulness of Modulated Deep Core Miner II. They appear to take up a turret slot and have similiar cpu/powergrid compared to a Miner II, but they use crystals and get the same time bonus as Strip I vs Strip II. Which means you can push the usefulness of a Rokh even further, up to near Covetor. Make training to mine Mercoxit useful even if you never plan to actually mine it.
Loved the guide the first time I read it (last version), love it this time. Thanks for the great work!

Originally by: Alaris Nightshadow Not to nitpick, but I also noted in section 11.3.
You mention the importance of having a player in the Fleet, Wing and Squad Commander Positions, but you neglect to mention the skills required for those in the roles to pass on the bonuses:
Fleet Commander Fleet Command - Allows command of a Fleet. Grants the Fleet Commander the ability to command a new Wing per skill level, up to a maximum of 5 Wings.
Wing Commander Wing Command - Allows command of a Wing. Grants the Wing Commander the ability to operate a new Squadron per skill level, up to a maximum of 5 Squadrons.
Squad Commander Leadership - Allows command of a squadron. Increases maximum squadron size by 2 members per skill level, up to a maximum of 10 members.
So for example if I have Wing Command III, I can pass my bonus on to three squads, assuming each squad has a Commander with Leadership V
If the same Character were to be in the Fleet Commander Position without the Fleet Command Skill, they would not pass on any bonus'
So if my main character is a miner and I wanted to make an Orca flying alt. What skills would each need so the alt could pass on the bonuses to my mining main?
It looks like the Orca would need fleet command and my miner would need wing command but thats more of a guess than anything since there would only be 2 people in the fleet.

Presuming that youre only talking about 2 people, one character would need leadership 1 (allowing for a squad of 2) and the guy getting the bonuses wouldnt need anything. They would both need to be in space in the same system.
Of course, practical wise, you cant get many bonuses with leadership 1, so you will have to trade up the leadership prerequisites for the mining boosting skills (mining foreman and mining director) and the booster character (which doesnt have to be the squad leader) has to be within the applicable 'command tree' structure.

Yes just me and an alt character on another account.
Originally by: Karox Lominax one character would need leadership 1 (allowing for a squad of 2) and the guy getting the bonuses wouldnt need anything
I thought you had to have a full chain of command, like at the minimum you would have to have a fleet commander, thus starting at the top of the chain. not starting at the squad level coming up from the bottom of the chain.
Originally by: Karox Lominax Of course, practical wise, you cant get many bonuses with leadership 1, so you will have to trade up the leadership prerequisites for the mining boosting skills (mining foreman and mining director)
I planned on the alt Orca pilot training up mining director (and the prereqs of course).

This is where you lost me. I understand the command tree structure but not how the boosts get applied. Can you have a squad leader boosting squad members without a wing or fleet commander? Thus I could just have my orca with the mining boost skills and squad leader skills but my actual miner not having any leadership or squad skills.

Awesome, so the I just need to get an Orca pilot alt up to squad commander and the other prereqs for mining director and such then.

To get the bonuses the "easy way" (including i.e. mining foreman) for small "2-3 alts ops":
1) Have the dude giving the bonuses form the fleet.
2) Have him become squad leader.
3) Invite 1 other guy as squad member.
4) Look at the fleet window, a green check should be now be visible all in the upper left. If it stays a red X, it means you are doing something wrong or the guys are in different systems or one is in a station.
5) Now that you got the green check, if you have more than 1 alt to invite, invite them as squad members. Depending on how many fleet skills you trained on your miner you use as booster, you can invite from 1 to N more members. Once you invite N + 1 people, the bonus "breaks" and you get in the red X situation again and you lose the bonus(es). In that case, start moving squad members to wing or elsewhere so that you get the green check again.
6) In case you have multiple fleet bonus miner alts like I do, you can form multiple squads, each one with the miner booster as squad leader and the rest populated by the regular other guys receiving the bonuses.
- Fleet
- Squad1
- Squad leader: Miner giving boost(s)
- Squad member: Regular guy receiving the boost(s)
- Squad 2
- Squad leader: Miner giving boost(s)
- Squad member: Regular guy receiving the boost(s)
- Squad N
Notice how you can get buff giving characters at their day 1 in game by appropriately choosing their beginning skills "path".

I didn't know about the x or check mark thing, I'll have to look at it when I get home today. Just to be clear, if someone is getting boosted they will have a green check mark, or does the check mark just signify the chain of command is setup properly.

This might be a stupid question but here it goes. I was checking the math on my mining yield against what eve said it should be because I'm creating a calculator. when i use a strip miner II with one mining upgrade II with my skills at lvl 5 with mining, mining barge, exhumers, and astrogeology it matches what eve says but the instant that I add the 2nd upgrade II the numbers are off by alittle bit. With one Upgrade my yield in m3 was 810.8578125 and eve matched it. With 2 upgrades my yield was 877.809375 and eve said 883.835015625. Could this be a glitch or do you have a increased yield when you equip 2 upgrades. Thanks for any help.

Remember that the bonuses for the MLUs are exponential, they don't simply stack...
so with one MLU2 you get a 9% bonus, with two of them you actually get 18.81% bonus (1.09^2), not 18%. Applying this leads to the correct value that you actually get. -----------------------------------------------

Edited by: Tisiphone on 22/03/2009 01:56:46 Lovely Guide!
Things which might be worth thinking about (as requested I'll add more if they occur to me, just the 1 to start):
1.) Regarding drones and travelling time - It might be worth mentioning the Drone Navigation computer. This soups up the drone speed and cuts travelling time, so might be of use to drone miners if they have a mid-slot free. Of course, chances are people will will want to use that mid-slot for tankage..........

Ello again.
First of i want to say that back when i first started in late 07 it was your guide that helped me get a hold in the eve vers so please dont take this post as a big moan. the fact is iv just finished playing from dt to dt (dont ask) so im compleatly dead. iv read to page 9 at this moment and noticed a few problems all of which im sure have been picked up befor but from this point on as i read through i will add to this post with the problem and the page number.
befor i get started tho id like to say thanks for both you origanl guide and this extended one, i used you 1st guide alot to help my self and as a reference to help teach other new players the ins and outs of mining... basicly i used this guide as the bassis for a mining 101 class i gave in corp. so for that i owe you a big thankyou.
and onto the problems
Bottom of page 9 "Remember what i (was) saying" Bottom of page 10 "upon (warPing)" Middle of page 13 "no mid slots in this game will increase your (yeild)." Top of page 14 "and jettison (it)" Middle of page 15 "Trick you in(to) shooting them" Top of page 17 "each race (h)as it's own" Top of page 24 "whatever which skill it is" (delete "which") Middle of page 24 (new paragraph not needed)"the cargo of your ship will be" Top of page 27 "outmine it depending (on) the battleship"
ok i just hit the drones section and im about to pass out, when i wake up (sets the alarm for 2010) ill finish of :P
