Guys,
I know you are busy, but you have individuals who are paid to talk to the community.
Since the expansion, most of empire space has experianced unplayable lag, trade hubs are largly off-line and so far i have been able to find 1 post from a CCP person regarding trade hubs.
this issue is not (from the user prespective) limited to trade hubs, Empire space in general is broken, traffic control is in place all over the cluster and systems are grinding to a hault with less than 30 people in them.
all we ask, is that you TALK TO US, let us know you are AWARE of the problem, and what steps you are taking to resolve it.
Being a technical person myself i am well aware that "time to fix" figures are bascially unreialble and i am not asking for that, WHAT I AM asking for however is that you at least take ownership of the problem and also give us some infomation.
if you OWN the problem, put all the infomation in 1 place, then people will quiet down. also i will at least know that i shouldnt waste time at night logging in till its fixed.
your silence is disturbing, and unprofessional.

Ok, and that post was at "2009.03.11 16:24:00" and than you made an update today with as little information as possible. What is the cause of the issue? How are you working to resolve said issue? Do you even know what the issue is, or are you guys just taking stabs in the dark about what the root problem actually is?

Why don't you just ask that each dev wear a live feed camera while your at it? Or figure out how trial and error works.
And for the ops message of silence being disturbing, I believe silence is golden in this case. It means they are doing their jobs instead of answering to the whims of the 500 people who post the same **** day after day instead of bothering to even look for the thread that has the answers.

Might be stupid terms to you, the non intellectual without technical skills, but I am and want to know what the issue is and what they are doing to resolve the issue. Having 1 dev out of dozens is not going to get the fix delayed, but I wouldn't expect you to understand that. Oh and by the way, talk in proper English, your "stfu plS" makes you sound like a 4yr old, which you might just be.

Something with the wormhole system is broken also.
Usually when you enter wormhole space the system info vanishes, a text appears about scanning extragalactic location and then you are presented with some number like J234520 as system info, the rest says unkonwn.
But I am back in normal space now and the usualy display of constellation/region info is not shown but instead replaced by that wormhole 'locus signature'. To make it worse, I always get the 'scanning for extragalactic loci...' display there now, earlier it displayed the wormhole location - and that all in normal New Eden space (also bugreport 74320). Rebooting the client didn't help, downtime didn't help either.
This whole aking the database for the extragalactic loci in New Eden space is surely bugged and causes extra-strain on the database. If I imagine that the database is all the time queried and that by thousands of players ...

The first thing I learned when having to provide support to users (that don't have any technical knowledge or experience) is that "keeping them in the loop" is the best way to prevent them from whining and escalating every stupid little problem up to the management.
For instance if I'm working on a problem - no matter how technically trivial or complex - the last thing I do before leaving the office in the evening is to send the people in question a quick e-mail or a phone call simply to let them know that we are still working on the issue, that we apprichiate their understanding and patience and that we are not giving up on them and their stupid technical problems (even if we have).
It's called keeping your customers as happy as possible - even if the software/product they are forced to work with is a nightmare.
So I totally disagree that they would better keep working on the problem then be giving us feedback. A CCP employee standing in the server room for 24h without giving feedback - though commendable - is worth less to the normal user then an employee who only spends 23h in the server room and spends the last hour providing some helpful (or not so helpful) information to the users.
In this case silence is equal to "we don't care about the users" (even if this is not true of course).
Edit: And simply linking the same 24h old forum post that contains little helpful information is also not the best way of "keeping us in the loop".
I agree that the technical problem will not be solved faster (maybe even slower) but CCP would make a better impression on their customers while they address the issues.
I personally don't have the need to be hand-fed info all the time (because I know that CCP is working as fast as they can) but I think I'm a minority in that knowledge.

actually its customary at ccp once a big patch is done within 2 days ccp sends half it staff on annual leave - holidays basically leaving skeleton crew to patch the game dont expect much feedback for a few days

Really, that's strange, I'm R&D in the printer division and I hardly hear from the firmware guys about the issue's I may send in but every other week or so I get a firmware update with fixes. Maybe I can speed it up if I stop by their desk's every 5 minutes and ask how the progress is although some may see that as micromanagement or being a general nuisance.

Actually every patch (except one last year) caused havoc and general server failures?
OK, it still sucks - but I see nothing new here and totally expected it to happen. If you cannot deal with it - take a break for a week and come back then. CCP have improved and got it working every time after some days or so now, it will not take weeks like the Exodus Expansion
I don't see the point why ppl still cry as it is totally normal CCP/EVE behaviour here
The only thing that sucks, that I have to pay for it. Anyhow I have not to pay for the expansion itself, so it is OK for me.

Not to sound like I'm trying to tell you how to do your job, but the limited scope of communications from CCP regarding this rather serious issue is agitating the community.
The less CCP will tell us the more suspicious we'll going to become and the wilder speculations will be.
A brief statement, explaining the state of investigation into the issue, would do wonders now.

The difference is that you learned - through experience and training - that the firmware guys will give you a solution no matter if you ask them every 5 minutes or not. However you're a trained and probably technical minded person with in-depth knowledge of what happens to your bug report once the firmware guys accept the ticket or whatnot.
You simply can't expect that from your everyday user - least of all from MMO-subscribers. CCP should adapt to that customer requirement.

TQ is a massively complicated set-up at CCPs end. Hiccups are inewitable when they put a new patch onto TQ, especially a major one.
We know this, CCP know this.
I'm sure it'll be sorted before too long. It's only been two days since a major upgrade so... chillax.

Edit: As long as there are serious technical issues with TQ CCP should basically have a community dude that does nothing else then communicate with their paying customers. There should be a huge big red message that pops up on the homepage so everyone knows where to find the information and where they can ask their questions.
It wouldn't be very hard for CCP to do this - and it would definatly reduce the amount of (legitimate) whining on the forums a great deal. There would still be whine posts but at least they would only come from trolls and not from genuine customers that feel like CCP isn't taking them seriously.
You and I both know that even if they make a pop up with epileptic flashy lights and bold letters that span the length of the screen detailing what is going on the average person will still come to GD and post the same damn topic over and over again.
And what would the dedicated forum administrator say every 5 minutes when a new person asks the same question. We're still working on it? (See 1:20 for reference). hence why I asked if we should just put live feed camera's on each dev so the people can just sit there and watch them code all day.

thank you, however i dont think its a co-incidence that your topic was updated after this one.
good luck solving the issues, as someone that looks after 500 + firewalls and a number or WANs i know what a pain in the ass troubleshooting can be, epsecially if its network based.
all we are looking for here is meaningful communication; communitys are so much nicer when people dont feel like they are being treated like shrooms. the disapointing part for me personaly has been that this has been happening since the m10 servers came up.
given there has been little infomation thusfar, i can assume its safe to go to the flicks tonight and watch that new superhero movie. ;) yaya. anyone know if its any good before i subject the missus to it? ;)

Yup.
This *is* my job and if I left our clients hanging without any updates, they would be raising up all sorts of **** with both their management and mine.
Most people are reasonable and realise that it takes time to investigate problems, or that you need to escalate to someone, or that you have to try and duplicate issues but they REALLY appreciate if you LET THEM KNOW.

Make a locked thread for the issues and update it.
It takes 5 minutes to write a quick update saying how they are going and if they have identified the resolution.
Five minutes once or twice a day, that's all it takes.

Like it or not previous instances of server problems have been handled much better. It all starts with the missing sticky in eve-general (even if its only a link to the one in the information portal). Many people who do not regularly forum ***** (unlike me) come here for info and eve-general seems to be the most natural place to look for information.
Then maybe they should also stop talking about the jita issue (if they haven't already) as its not only jita.
This is simple pr. They are really into it on other occasions (and in that context that is usually a nuisance...) but where it really matters in direct interaction with the customer it sometime lacks.
People who pretend that giving some info on possible causes and progess on the matter would hinder the fix: you're wrong. Not only that but you're being either obtuse or outright deceptive. For starters there are employees working on community interaction specifically probably they are not fixing the server in this very moment.
Not to mention on all earlier such occurences ccp was communicating proactively on their progress or even their non-progress if thats how it is. It didn't keep them from fixing it either.
I don't have any doubts they are doing what they can and no one is expecting miracles. I wish them good luck anyway but i don't see how a moderate call for clarification by the op makes so many people in this thread angry. Those people are being irrational and obnoxious. --

gb2wow then. They are also SHARDED, which means more localized issues instead of cluster-wide. EVE isn't like that, so don't compare the two. ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |
