Hi, I'm a brand new EVE player. My LCD monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and the fonts in game are so tiny I can hardly read anything. I looked under the game settings but the only font settings there do not seem to affect anything other than maybe the chat box.
Please tell me what I'm missing here. Where can I find the settings for the font size to make this thing more readable? It's driving me crazy.
Many thanks.

First off the EVE font takes some getting used to. Secondly, here are the settings that may help you:
press ESC -> General Settings tab -> Context Menu Fontsize -> default is 10, you can increase it to 12 or 14.
There is also ESC -> General Settings tab -> Font Width -> default is normal, you can increase it to "expanded".
I think thats about it.
Welcome to EVE and don't forget, don't trust anyone.

Yep, I think it is time for Eve to upgrade the UI

Petitioned this one year ago and got told it had been petitioned to death for years. It's an integrated part of the code so basically you can forget it.

Edited by: Corthephis Eriaggan on 15/03/2009 11:44:36 I am exactly in the same case, playing on a laptop with screen optimized for 1680x1050, and "only" 17 inches. In other games, I always managed to find a "rescale interface", to get fonts as big as I need, but not on EVE. During the first week I played in decreased resolution, 1440x900. But as I became familiar to the various windows and menus, I changed back to the optimized, and now the very little size of the fonts doesn't disturb me any more.
I think it is anyway something that the developpers should take in consideration, I can't tell if I won't have eyes tired after several hours behind my screen, and that would be the first game qausing me that problem...

Yes, I've been wanting a better font since the very beginning. My eyes are just so strained reading the chat. Increasing the fotn at the current state just degrades the legibility by so much, that its even better to suffer through the small text.
It's all a plan. CCP wants to start selling glasses, and contact lenses, EVE branded.

Because of limitations when EvE was first written, the only things you can do with the font is go to 12pt expanded. That's about as big as it gets, and you'll find that the UI windows won't scale well if you substitute a custom font. Matter of fact, they won't scale at all, so if you go much bigger you won't be able to read what's there at all. It's been tried.
Yes, the developers need to rethink that aspect of EvE. As long as the Classic client was around, wiht it's commitment to Geforce 3-level specs, that wasn't gonna happen.
Now with the move to Shader 2 and a minimum spec for hardware that's a leetle heftier, we may see this coming down the pike.

I think tiny-fonts are part of the Eve spaceship environment, you know, futuristic look
While it may be "annoying" it's also necessary as a lot of windows need to be opened at same time, showing tons of information. Seriously I won't know of other game who requires such amount of info to be opened at a time =)
This may sound moronic but try to approach the screen LOL... with 0.25mm or bigger dot screen size, and being 0.6meters or closer from screen, you will have no problems!! It's not logical to be 1meter away from screen you know?

In space, nobody can see you squint?
While the small fonts are obviously useful for presenting as much information at the same time as possible and hence a great choice for those with good eyesight using screens with native resolutions akin to 2002-2004 standards or higher resolution with correspondingly larger screens, I'd personally be willing to trade up for a larger fontsize, less information at my fingertips, and reduced odds of headaches - and I'm not even one of the people who are worst served in this respect; that dubious honour belongs to those sorry bastards who are really high native resolution laptop users.

I have poor eye sight and had a problem with the text - I am a trader.
The only thing in theend I was able to get around this problem was to reduce the screen resolution to 800x600 and then run EVE in windowed mode - it take a few minutes to get the screen sorted -
Basically I shifted a lot of things to the top left - merged a few of the icons and merged a lot of the windows
ie I have market, chat, assets, wallet, etc all in one window - like you can do with the normal chat window (where you can have local, corp, other chats all merged)
This means that even with poor sight - for most activities I can sit back in my chair and relax -
I can read the wallet and market pages - read corp chat etc with little problem when before I had to squit my eyes and get closer to the screen.
I can even fly around in hi sec quitet safely.
Not recommened for pvp or low sec travels :-)
