I am just starting out and I was wondering if there is a place in high end pvp corporations for ôhealers.ö
I was thinking something like a dominix equipped with shield and armour repairers and logistic drones. If itÆs something that simply isnÆt used thatÆs fine I am just asking so I will know if itÆs worth aiming for.

Logistics ships are your closest bet. They used to be used quite a lot in the more organised groups, but I don't know whether that is still the case.

They're still used quite a bit.
And yeah, a logistics domi is also a reasonable choice. Most people tend to have a combination of reps and offensive EW in the highs (e.g. neuts) and use drones for DPS.

You can be a "healer" in battles but you'll also be a "primary".

An Exequror is a lot cheaper and will do better in a roaming gang because of the range bonus.

Yes, there's a space for "healers". Here in EvE we call 'em "logistics" people, in tune withthe sci-fi aspects of the game.
There are entire classes of ships to do this with, starting with Cruisers and working up from there. As mentioned earlier, the Exequeror is a good choice for a logistics cruiser - if you can tolerate it's appearance :)
All races have at least one logistics craft, the way you can tell is to look at the ship informaiton page, and look to see what the ship's bonuses are. If it has a bonus to "remote (armor/shield) (repair/transporters)", it's generally a logistics craft.
Now, the MODULES that you use to do this can be fit on any ship - on a logistics craft they'll work from farther away or do more repair per cycle. The modules you want to look at are "remote armor repair" modules for repairing armor (BY FAR the most popular choice for PvP gangs), or "shield transporters" (for shield, and usually used by Caldari gangs due tot hrace's propensity for shield tanking).
You'll also hear the term "spider tanking" bandied about - it's when ALL ships in a gang equip at least ONE remote repper, and they all target whatever ship is being attacked and remote-repair it. As can be surmised, a spider tank is VERY hard to break, providing the gang can retarget quickly...:)
Anyway, hope that helps you a bit.

Exequror is big and beautiful, bigger that many battlecruisers in fact, as a caldari you obvously prefer your ships to look like stick insects (caracal) for example. Unfortunately your ships snap as easily as stick insects as well.

ThatÆs very helpful. Thank you very much. So as a logistics ship I can focus heavily on healing. But spider tanking sounds like an impressive trick as well. Thanks again for the info it will help a lot.

LOLroleplay aside, no. Just, no.
Exequeror looks like a Iteron and a coupe of jet planes had a orgy, with the Exequeror the bastard lovechild result.
And please don't assume so much - I think Merlins and Drakes are beautiful, and the Osprey looks to me like someone stepped on it.
And you will find nobody that hates Ravens more than I do. Ye Ghods, what were they thinking??

Edited by: Mara Rinn on 16/03/2009 01:04:27 Most fleets that I've had experience with have been armour tanked. You'll want to fly a Guardian (the Amarr logistics cruiser, based on the Auguror hull). The Guardian and Oneiros/Exequror are remote armour repair cruisers, but the Guardian also manages energy transfer, which helps your logistics boats keep the repairs going longer.

Yes, remote repairs ("remote reps" or RRs) are useful and essential for any reasonable fleet battle.
Please don't refer to them as healers though, for your own sake :)

You could also look at the basic Leadership skills.
Being able to give a 10% boost to shield, armour, agility, locking time & targeting range is quite a handy ability, just for simply being in a gang.
On top of the Logistics ships are the Fleet Command ships. They are not designed for plain shield/armour repair, but rather can operate three specific Warlinks at any given time. (Look up Warlinks, on the ingame market, for descriptions).
Battlecruisers can typically run one Warlink, unless augmented.
There's not really a "healer" per se; but if you're looking to be able to give buff-support, there's plenty of call for that. It's fairly specialised, I'd say. _______ Liberating Vegas '09! |

Command Ships are more like Bards in my opinion

Indeed, they are, although not as adept at pulling as the latter were.
Need for logistics ships is something like this: 1. Small gangs that attempt to pick their targets and be highly mobile typically rely more on shield-based logistics (Scimitar and Basilisk). This is more true if they are heavy on recons and heavy assault ships (most of these are passive shield tanked). 2. Larger gangs with Battleships typically make more use of armor-based logistics (Guardian and Oneiros), although some BS are most commonly shield tanked (Raven and Rokh).
The Scimitar is a favorite for shield-repping in roaming gangs. It can do so while fitting tackling gear or a decent hp buffer and tackling gear itself. The Basilisk is better for boosting a POS, due to its greater number of highslots and fitting specs.
The Guardian is usually preferred for remote armor rep, as it also has a bonus to cap transfer.

On a side note: Ewar, especially from jamming ships like the Falcon and Scorpion, is the mortal enemy of logistics ships. "Boo hoo. Cry some more." CCP Whisper

Actually, there is a full healer option apart from logistics. Triage Carriers, while not used that much can and do turn sides of an engagement. But the cost of such a ship is high, you really need to be in a corp/alliance that can field such ships with the backing they need.
Have a look and watch the movie.
