Its because our brains (men and women) work differently I think. There has been research on this actually.
Quote: Although women are more successful in tests requiring them to remember the position of objects, men consistently do better in tasks requiring navigation and uncovering hidden objects.

Oi, I personally find parallel parking to be hard but come on...
honestly if her parking skills are that bad and I had the power, id revoke her driving privlages and send her back to drivers ed. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I hear a well known cereal company were offering free driving licenses with cornflake packs a while ago. Just send 20 tokens and receive your license.
Just goes to prove that the lessons and test aren't as comprehensive as they might seem. Reversing isn't something that has too much importance to instructors or examiners. IMO, it's probably as important to learn how to control a car in reverse as it is to control it going forward since reversing is more demanding on the concentration and is usually more difficult for people to get right.

Reversing a semi (lorry for you across the pond) takes concentration and skill...
Reversing a subcompact requires the following 1) Put gearbox into reverse 2) Turn to look out rear window 3) Use gas, brake, and steering wheel as appropriate 4) ??? 5) Profit!
As for tests. Where I got my license (New Jersey), we had to park in a parking spot, parallel park, do a K-turn from the parallel parking spot, and do some driving. Both parallel parking and the K-turn require controlling your car in reverse. Touching either the cones that simulate other parked cars, or the curb results in instant failure of the test...
So, at least where I'm from, you need to know how to drive in reverse to get a license. Then again, nothing says that this woman even HAD a license, so who knows. ----- The above does not represent the opinions of my corp or alliance. |

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 17/03/2009 15:28:27 [You can laugh about it but if a driver is THAT bad then it's dangerous and an accident waiting to happen, if she causes an accident she should be charged with intentionally causing harm or (if it happens) murder.
If you're that bad of a driver you should not drive as you have no real control over the car, which essentially is a two ton murder weapon.
