Newest patch makes obvious, a need for a ship type not currently available in EVE.
I won't go as far as to suggest an astrometric's capital ship, but we do need an astrometrics ship with somewhat better offensive/defensive capabilities, given that any foray into w-space is going to involve fighting and scanning.
I love the CovOps class, but could we consider an astrometrics BC or something that could do both astrometrics and battle (though perhaps not as well as ships specialized to do one or the other)?

Umm... fit a Grav rig or two onto anything "with teeth". Since the new probe launcher consumes as much ship resources as a CD player.
The newest patch didn't make it obvious we need new exploration ships, it made it obvious that any ship can be an explorer. --- Life altering changes, to combat the acts of a extreme minority... means you're letting the terrorists win. "Players don't want Variety. They want THE BEST" |

EHM... the expanded are hard to fit really. but the core is real easy. but I agree that we could use a cruiser sized astrometrics ship with the ability to have a offensive and defenseive capabilities...

What about the recon ships? Arent' they used for exactly that?
I don't know what the other races are called but for Minmatar it's the rapier.
Also, /agree with the fact that probe launcher reqs have been lowered for precisely that reason. Not the combat one but the w-space finding ones.

So you want a ship that gets scan bonuses AND fights well?
No. Get some friends to scout for you

yes a new t2 bc for astrometrics would be cool
caldari model could use the much loved drake model
gallente could use the myrmidon model
minmater could use the hurricane model
and amarr use the harbinger model

Agreed.
I like the idea of using BC as a possible basis for an astrometric with teeth.
Give it the astrometric bonus of CovOps without, perhaps the cloaking benefits of CovOps.
Keep the base BC class, tech 2, so like command - BC 5, without the benefits of command. Sounds like a reasonable compromised for balance sake.

While I like the idea of an astrometrics BC, Please be aware that each race already has an "astrometrics ships with teeth". Namely, the Force Recon ships. While they don't specifically have an Astrometrics bonus, they CAN cloak while warping, and can fit enough weapons to take on just about any frigate. Perhaps the Force Recons should be given an Astrometrics bonus to replace the Warp Disrupt bonus. (WD bonus is more useful on Combat Recons anyway.)
Although I have to admit I'd REALLY like to see a T2 variant of the Myrm. I'm just not certain that Astrometrics is really the right role for a drone boat. Fix the Wardec System! Upgrade the Probing System! |

People keep saying this .. but the Force Recon doesn't have astrometric bonus. Why do people consider this ship to be astrometric with teeth?

Yes, this is a good suggestion too. I've wondered about a T2 variant of the Myr. Problem is the other races .. for Caldari would you go t2 drake for example, same with the other races? etc.
